I don't know if this is the right place, but such a question must be made somewhere: eventually the echoes will arrive where they're supposed to.
Am I the only one who thinks that the AutoDock core could be improved? The guys from Folding@Home coded their software for achieving better results with the now very common dualcore processors but their greatest work was to make the software from 40 to 60 TIMES FASTER using GPUs (Actually only certain ATI Radeon cards). I mean... 40 to 60 times faster!!! And they want also to code a PS3 client, which is not a very bad idea since its processor is something like the fastest chip you'll ever find on the shelves. So, as someone else said in this forum, what about a PS3 and a new multicore-gpu enabled client? There is someone who's responsible for AutoDock coding in this forum who can tell me something about this? |

We have discussed this before.
The short answer is: those numbers are inflated, and it will be a large time investment to add GPU support to a WCG project. That doesn't mean it won't happen. Just that we are happy for F@H to do the trailblazing, while waiting for suitable GPUs to become ubiquitous. If I remember correctly, WCG have already begun examining the possibilities of the PS3. Again, patience will be required. |
