So peoples, this is what i have managed to do.
Whilst learning more about the boinc agent in consideration of migrating i was reading through this web page: http://www.wcgwiki.org/en/boinc/migration.cfm Deciding that i would need detailed instuctions i clicked on the link, step by step instructions, just to have a read. It took me to the WCG my grid login page, so i logged in thinking, ok i have to do this just to read it, well, the first screen i was greated with welcomed me for installing the boinc agent ![]() In my, my grid statistics etc i now have things such as: (with numbers listed) BOINC Account Key: BOINC Project URL: BOINC Account Number: BOINC Cross-Project Id: And an option for beta testing. So, do i need to do something about this?, as im not convinced the boinc agent is best for me. Forgive me, i am an Learner cruncher. Many thanks. |

Hello AustraliaBlue,
No problem. My Grid - My Profile now shows a BOINC Account assigned to you, but you do not need to use it. Just don't download BOINC. If you do download BOINC, then use your assigned account for BOINC projects. Lawrence |

![]() Right. When we added the BOINC client, we decided not to give everybody already using the UD client a BOINC account. But you do get one if you go to the web page telling people how to add the WCG project to a BOINC installation. There are many different web sites offering BOINC as a download, not just the World Community Grid. Lawrence |

Hey Didactylos,
Very helpful web site indeed. ![]() The choosing the right agent, BOINC or UD: Which One is Best? explains the differences quite well. Is something i had been looking for. If i were to add anything it would be screen shots of both agents so people can look and see what the differences are in looks but also tabs and options to select etc. Oh, and I'd put something on there about the cpu %age tool too. ![]() |

AustraliaBlue, that's one of my web pages. .... http://www.wcgwiki.org/en/boinc/migration.cf I sure could have used the page recently when I added my notebook. A year is sometime to long away. I just plain forgot that WCG is a "Project" and rambled around in my old-timer ways trying to figure out where I could find that "Project" in the WCG to attach to BOINC ?? I just stuck in the WCG URL and bang-oh it worked ?? Now I know why a lot of those people I've been selling WCG to haven't loged in and started crunching. We often become to familiar with our toys and things so when it comes to haveing someone else play with them, they (the new folks) get discussed and just say " go play with yourself !" then leave the playground. We need a critical look at our initial new member intro from the perspective of someone unfamiliar/new with crunching and how to start and finish. Then lastly something like " Your all finished. Now click on that little "B" icon in you tray at the screen bottom and you should see a page from the BOINC manager: explore the tabs and become familiar. Enjoy. |

The initial enrolment pages were revised a few weeks ago, but retracted due to some unexpected code problems. As it's understood they will be re-rolled out mid January ('07 ;>).
----------------------------------------The WCGWiki page earlier referenced has a step-by-step link in the second paragraph. ......final post of 2006..... happy, prosperous but most of all peacefull new year to y'all.
