Hello,
Recently i have installed the WCG client for the Help Defeat Cancer project on my main home machine (AthlonXP3K 1G). Currently i'm doing my MCS at the national french institute of Informatics and Robotics (INRIA) OASIS Team. Is it possible to get the sources of the WCG Client and/or learn more about the tasks that are running on my machine ? Thanks |

The science applications are closed source, but you can learn a lot more about them.
Human Proteome Folding uses Rosetta, from Baker Labs NYU. FightAIDS@Home uses Autodock, from Scripps. Genome Comparison uses the SSEARCH algorithm. I know less about the other programs, but I'm sure you can find out a lot if you are interested. |

The first place to start is in the Research Tab ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/projects_showcase/viewResearch.do ) and then read the newsletters at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/newsletter/viewNewsletterMain.do
Next, go to the websites maintained by the sponsoring organizations that are listed in http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=4925#51997 I have not listed websites for Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy yet. Also, look at the papers listed on those sites. There is a lot about Rosetta at Rosetta@home at http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ and sme about AutoDock 4 at http://autodock.scripps.edu/ Lawrence |

The UD agent is proprietary and the source is not available even to us.
----------------------------------------The BOINC agent and server are open source and you can download the source code freely from the BOINC website: http://boinc.berkeley.edu As for the science applications, the source is owned/licensed by the sponsoring organization. In some cases the source might be available from them, but usually not. Even if it is available, it won't be exactly what is running on the grid due to our modifications. To learn about the science applications themselves, lawrencehardin & Didactylos covered that pretty well in a prior post.
