I have a Help Defeat Cancer work unit that is stuck at 0% progress after 2 days running around the clock (and the computer isn't doing anything else). Should I restart this, abandon it, or something else. And if so, please tell me how.

What operating system are you using ? What agent are you using?
----------------------------------------If you are using windows bring up task manager and look for the job under processes. It should be the one using most if not all of your processor. If it has used quite a bit of actual processor time and is still accumulating time, right click on it and select "end this process." The agent will abort this unit and download another one. Check the "Help Defeat Cancer" thread as this issue has cropped up before. Cheers Sgt.Joe Minnesota Crunchers

Also, could you please put your device ID in a post for us? This will help me find out what work unit you were working on so I can debug it. I assume your computer calculation time shows 2 days x hours....on the UD agent.

I'm running Windows XP, UD agent, and rebooting a second time seems to have cleared the jam, as four more hours have brought the progress up to 11%. The 51 hours spent doing nothing no longer show up in my task run time, but that's OK; my concern was to get the thing working again. And in case you still care, the device ID (as shown when I select "view your device list") is device name "David_Hathaway", selected profile "Default".

Hello David_Hathaway,
To see your Device ID, click the icon bring up the WCG screen, then select the check at the bottom to switch to the Preferences View. It lists your Device ID, which is a number. Glad you got it running again by rebooting. Lawrence |

Thanks for the pointer. Since it's running now it probably doesn't matter, but my device ID is 149367.

I've had this problem occur twice on my WinME machine. Both times restarting the WCG program solved the problem.
I think there's something about loading and starting a new work unit that gets hung up sometimes. It's only happened with the cancer stuff, though. What a shame, too- I left that machine running for three days while I was away for the holidays. Of course, it must have been the next task assigned right after I left that stalled it- so I could've turned the machine off for all it was worth. ![]() |

To clarify (and I would have preferred the option to edit my previous post, but oh, well):
----------------------------------------Not only does the work completed percentage counter remain at 0%, but the time clock does not advance at all. I can't recall if it sits forever at 1 second or 0 seconds. No time spent means no work completed. I'm surprised there aren't more people reporting this issue. As I said, all the other projects function properly and automatically. I'd include the device ID of my home machine, but I'm at work just now! Work machine is 435935, if that helps any. I'm not sure if I've seen the problem on this machine or only just at home, though. Hmm- another 13 minutes and the statistics update will be completed... maybe I can get the machine ID from that page then. edit: home machine is 427647 [Edit 1 times, last edit by Robotic at Jan 6, 2007 3:49:05 AM] |
