Hi all :)
I'm trying to set up Boinc properly so I have one profile for each PC I own. One is my server and the other is my games rig. How can I set them up so that each of them has a separate profile and will have 'tasks' kept back for them so if the server is down, there will be work for them to carry on with? Many thanks :) Its probably real easy, I'm just too dumb to figure it out!! Merry Christmas all :D |

Hi Phill23,
----------------------------------------BOINC has 3 named profiles: Home, School and Work. You can assign a different named profile to each of your computers. What you cannot do yet is assign different WCG projects to each profile. (Added: Didactylos is right! The BOINC profiles have had the 'Available Projects' section added to them. So now different WCG projects can be selected for different profiles. )Lawrence [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 26, 2006 12:07:26 PM] |

But why does my server rig (which is a AMD 3200+) have 3 tasks in total to do, where as my Gaming rig (AMD X2 4600+) have just the two tasks each core is doing?? I thought since its got two cores and is nearly 800Mhz on each core faster, it would have a few more lined up as it where.... |

If you increase the "connect to network" time you will be supplied with more units. Also as BOINC learns your machine you will probably be supplied more units based on how fast you have completed the ones in your present queue. BOINC's scheduling algorithm will keep you supplied.

Many thanks for that Sgt. Joe :D
I've just ordered a Conroe E6600 and a Abit Max motherboard, will this help crunch quicker than the AMD X2 4600+ I have currently?? |

I think that Conroe has a slight edge in processing power. Check out Tom's Hardware at http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html They have a pretty comprehensive run down on different processor comparisons.

Hi Phill23,
According to the reviews that I have seen, the new Core 2 architecture crunches almost a third again as fast as the Athlon 64. Meaning that a 2.1 Ghz Core 2 would be almost as fast as a 2.8 Ghz Athlon 64. But I have not checked this personally yet. Maybe next Christmas. Lawrence |

Well hopefully I can show you all this myself as I am just testing my Conroe system a bit with overclocks and so far I'm at 3Ghz with the standard voltage and lots left in reserve so, here's to hoping :D
Anything over 3Ghz is gonna be fast as hell, the results I'm getting for the things I'm doing its untrue! My hardware I had with my X2 has got a new meaning with this Intel CPU! :D Truly amazing :D |

Keep an eye on the Result Status page and the outcome...... 'invalid' results, only granting 50% of the (remaining) quorum median will tell u soon enough if u over-over-clocked. Hope u got the ram speed and bus to go with it
