Longer Result return period planned over christmas ?

Hello,

is there a longer result return period (more than 7 days planned) over Christmas holidays ? This would be good for not loosing work that has started on systems that are stopped during the holiday timeframe.

I would suggest to allow returns from now on until the 11 of January. Than the normal 7 days should be brought back.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Longer Result return period planned over christmas ?

The hardware outage is explained in the read only issues at the top of the forum.

I am not posting a link to make it too easy, so folks will get used to checking up there for new messages.

Yes, I hope that a longer grace period is established when the BOINC servers return.

(The UD servers are still active.)

What makes you think we want anything easy? I dont think they were talking about the outage

perhaps not, but a few days have been added due to the hardware outage, which accomplishes the same thing.

We have extended the grace period for how long you are sure to get credit for work returned after the deadline. Anybody returning late work over the next few days will be able to get credit for the work they have done.

In America, most are off for Christmas day and return to work Tuesday. We forget that Europeans take more time off for each Holiday than just the holiday itself. The same problem could happen after a 3 month vacation "holiday" in Europe during the summer.

A few days will be added due to this hardware outage, but no other mechanism is in place to allow for work that is late.

If the computers will remain on, it is always possible to run a climate control BOINC project that doesn't have to be completed for 19 months later than it is downloaded.

If time off is such a problem and your computer will be inactive while you are away, set your BOINC projects to "won't accept new tasks" early enough so that your queues will be drained before you leave.
