Member names are now made public in the results page? I'm not sure how this will go over but personally I like it. This will go a long ways towards discouraging the use of optimised benchmarks. ![]() |

Well, I would expect a fairly polar love/hate reaction. However, that's not the WCG site that does that. I couldn't find anything like that on any of the Results Status pages. Since that's a JPG (image) from another web site, someone may have come up with some way to identify users and specific workunits. The Members Name column is definitely an added column. None of the WCG pages I could find had it.

Hi keithhenry,
That was a change made in the Results Status code back in September, but not deployed. People had forgotten about it when we put in another change and implemented the code. We quickly withdrew the whole changed page in order to think things over. Maybe our heads will stop whirling in January. Lawrence |

Well, I still think you'd get a very polar love/hate reaction. It would make it rather easy for one user to harass another user about their crunching, make accusations and more. It could also help in isolating strange problems as common characteristics in the crunchers assigned the WU might be thought of that would otherwise not be possible. If it's implemented, I would strongly recommend serious consideration of an optin to allow display of your username with do not display as the default. Communication between members via email is difficult enough now since you're only hope there is that the other member posts at least once in the forums with their email address defined. Put this out and all you need is one bad incident and everyone will be pulling that. I can see the good side but the downside risks could be serious, especially in light of somewhat recent events.

I see the potential problems but there are the upsides too.
----------------------------------------Just an example from that jpg: DCManiak is a friend of mine. If I saw that I'd give him a yell and ask if he was aware that he had a problem. As long as it's kept adult there shouldn't be issues and the information factor is huge. Yes, I always see the glass as half full! ![]() ![]() |

I cut the jpg above from a screen shot I took of my results yesterday. But it seems that the member names are no longer appearing in the results page. Perhaps it was a quick change of heart on the part of the WCG staff or just a small SNAFU that made the names temporarily appear. I guess I should have waited to see if the change was permanent.

i'm with movieman, i would love to see this implemented although could there be a way of linking your name to the pc that the workunit came from?
i also agree with keithhenry that if the default is do not display, then only those of us who wish to use the function would need to make a tick. and as a side note, but not to hijack why would there be so much of a difference in cpu time? is that due only to a faster processor? |

and as a side note, but not to hijack why would there be so much of a difference in cpu time? is that due only to a faster processor? Well, it's a hijack.... u can open a new thread in the BOINC Support section.....and can think of at least 2 alternate reasons, but 1 of them would not be a known FA@H related issue. Member Names is not likely to return, unless one volunteers (take it as a suggestion). The device name of your record would be visible 1 page back, the others i dont see really as critical for the member (just an opinion). While it was up and surely to return, viewing/comparing the status logs of all in the quorum is quite educational. Looked at a 'inconclusive' i have. With great certainty it pointed at which one is going to be invalid.....made a note for myself to confirm. cheers
