World Community Grid - View Thread - BOINC: Agents, Projects Versions and Processes

This is a check-list of all the Agents, Projects and Versions as at Nov 23, 2011 and the processes that can be seen in the Task Manager of your Operating System. The 'Daemon' aka Core Client is the process connecting the 'Science' application and the GUI (BOINCmgr Simple or Advanced View ). Each of these processes may need definition of exemption rules in Software Firewall, DEP or Antivirus ++ application as they are at times misinterpreted as inappropriate activity.

BOINC Agent - Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing - (BOINC.exe)

Windows: Minimum: 5.4.11, Recommended with Simple View & WCG Skin 6.10.58 (Includes Proxy and all Vista issue resolutions!)
Linux: Minimum: 5.4.11, Recommended with Standard GUI 6.10.58
Mac: Minimum: 5.4.9, Recommended with Standard GUI 6.10.58

BOINC Release Information & Version History

Though 64bit BOINC clients can be obtained elsewhere, there is but by exception, no substantial benefit as the science applications still exclusively run in 32bit. These Projects / Sciences are:

The Science application process name varies and are suffixed: Windows with 'windows_intelx86', for Mac in 'i686-apple-darwin' and Linux/FreeBSD as 'i686-pc-linux-gnu'

++ The science result writing is sometimes blocked by antivirus programs. For e.g. Alwil Avast's WebShield section, explicitly exclude IP 127.0.0.1 (localhost). The option "ignore local network traffic" is not sufficient [bug?]. Memory scanning remains in effect! This is a function often found in firewalls where localhost traffic should also be unlocked for BOINC to function properly. See other FAQ's and Help for more on this topic.

*** Version numbers can be seen in the Tasks / Work tab of the BOINC manager Advanced View or in the Operating Systems' TaskManager, Process View.

When reporting problems, add at minimum the Operating System+version, Agent+version, Project Name+version, Computer / Device ID, CPU Type + Speed, RAM size and Free hard Disk Space of the Partition on which the client/agent was installed.
