I am using/testing the BOINC 5.7.5 on MacOS X with different projects.
----------------------------------------If the CPU throtteling is enabled, the FAAH the WU will stop crunching. If I suspend and resume the WU, the WU goes back to 0 %. Some output of the result 9300168 :
The other projects works well with the CPU throtteling with the BOINC client 5.7.5. There was also a patch by David, which fixed this issue in the BOINC API on a previous version (5.7.4). Before this fix, this behavior happens on all project. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dotsch at Dec 6, 2006 7:19:56 AM] |

Have you reported this to the BOINC devs?

Not in the moment, but I would do this too.
But I think, that this is not a BOINC problem, because David has applied a fix which works for all projects except WCG. Also if I look at the stderr.txt, it looks like a WCG FAAH application releated problem. |

If FAAH works in the stable release and not in the alpha release, then it is a BOINC problem. Of course, WCG will help track down the issue if they can.

No, I think not that is a BOINC releated problem, because the throtteling is a new mechanism which will be tested in the BOINC alpha releases, and it wok on all the other projects, except WCG. If you look in the crash dump, you see that the WCG application was linked against BOINC 5.4.9. This could also be a problem, because the CPU throtteling was not included in this BOINC release. So I hope, that the WCG scientists and dev would have a look on the problem. |

Hi Dotsch,
It sounds as though we need to recompile FAAH using the new patched API BOINC library. I will send a note about this, but I suspect that we are so busy that it will take a while. Until farther notice, I suggest that you not run FAAH while you are testing the BOINC alpha build. Lawrence |

I am not shure, if a recompile is needed. - If I remember correctly, David has written, that the fix is for the BOINC client and a recompile is not needed. I will search for his posting in the mailinglist. But it looks like the fix did not work, so it could be that a relinking could fix the problem.
I have mailed these problem to the BOINC devs mailinglist, too. - Do you read the devs mailinglist ? - If not, I could mail/post you the awnsers. I am using MacOS 10.4.8. |

David has awnsered at the boinc alpha mailinglist.
----------------------------------------The problem can also occur at suspends/resumes without CPU throtteling. He has written a new fix for the BOINC API. I am not shure, but it looks like a recompile/relink of the science application is needed. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dotsch at Dec 16, 2006 2:50:45 PM] |
