Multiple invalid/inconclusive workunits

In the last 3-4 days I have had at least 4 invalid and 10 inconclusive workunits returned. All have been HDC units. Some were from a MacBookPro 2.33 w/ 2GB RAM, the others from a Windows w/ two Pentium D 3.0 processors and 2GB RAM. How many invalid/inconclusive results can be returned by a machine before it stops getting workunits? (Or before all of ts results get tagged as invalid?)

There is a problem with hdc and faah - hdc more so than faah. I quit running those two and now am just running fcg1 (and the bottom choice under "My Projects" but it never receives any work).

Re: Multiple invalid/inconclusive workunits

Not too hasty is judging. The 10 inconclusive (usually when the first 3 copies don't agree) are still waiting on additional copies to determine if yours is fine or not. That said, having way above average and is more suggestive of a communality on the user side. Did the phenomena start after a specific activity like updating your security software or windows or mac.... did u make router changes?

Here a little expanded checklist for u to report:
0. Device / Computer ID... a 5 digit number found in message log.
1. BOiNC version.
2. Operating System.
3. Update level like SP2
4. Anti virus program and version
5. Software Firewall and version
6. Spam filter if any and version
7. CPU brand, type, speed.
8. Ram Size.
9. Video card and status of drivers.
10. What browser IE7, IE6 (these are OS integrated for Windows)
11. Any other u feel relevant
12. Cuts and past of the quorum detail for the problem work unit(s).

For BOiNC, look is the message log file "stdoutdae.txt" for anything that is related to the invalid Work Unit error like memory alerts...disk or ram and copy past into your post.

How many, before WCG stops sending.... depends. If continuously producing 'error' work units, eventually u will get 1 or 2 per day until a valid is returned. The closing of the tap is slower than the opening, thus as soon as a valid comes back, more work is allowed. It's though difficult to determine as quorum 3 often delays the validation by several days.

As for FA@H, the problems are rare. Considering the daily work unit return is averaging 83 thousand work units and the little reporting, it's hard to pinpoint. Often setting the 'do not send new work', deplete what's in the work buffer, than "project reset" will rid a few rouge problems.

One more thing: Make sure all the video drivers are up to date: graphics was added to hdc & fa@h a few weeks ago. Stranger things have happened.

Re: Multiple invalid/inconclusive workunits

XtremeSystems forum as u indicate has a private section, which i cant visit. As it is seemingly not for public consumption, i can only suggest u take it up directly with the WCG technicians which u can reach thru Contact Us.

cheers

To answer this observation and the alternate work option, the servers will try to always in first line supply the GC work as your prime project. Only when it runs short of work on your prime selection in the queue will u get alternate work. I'm doing only HDC and GC on BOiNC and its split 50/50.... all running perfectly fine, zero invalid (not requiring 4th copy to achieve quorum).

Re: Multiple invalid/inconclusive workunits

I thank u for the invitation but at this time respectfully decline. I would make it known here, should my position change to (tin)foil any 'Dagmar' situations.
