I have been running the latest download for over 41 hours. It is using v5.1.2.0 and has the CPU throttle set to 100%. At this time it shows 5% completion; that projects to over 800 hours to reach a solution. I am also running Rosetta at Home through BOINC, and it is cranking out work as usual. Task Manager says that Rosetta is using almost all of the CPU time and that ud_10245647.exe is using none. I have had to kill HPF2 twice before because the earlier versions hung up like this. I'm beginning to wonder whether this app isn't ready for prime time and should be removed from my list of World Community Grid projects. All the others produce results in less than a day.

Hi Mr_Boffo
----------------------------------------Are u running both on the same computer simultaneously? Shut down BOiNC or snooze it and observe wcg_hpf2_rosetta.exe in Taskmanager if u do and advice. cheers

Putting Rosetta in snooze mode makes this one move again. Bringing Rosetta out of snooze stops it. It only uses about 50% of the CPU, while the 2 tasks Rosetta runs use over 90 % combined.

Empirically determined that if running BOiNC and UD(WCG) agent with HPF2 simultaneously, latter will give away to BOiNC, barely getting any CPU time. If u let UD(WCG) agent run on one core and BOiNC on the other, it will co-exist. It's not very efficient. Soon HFP2 should also be available on BOiNC. When running FA@H, GC or HDC, the 2 Agents without throttle setting will share the available ticks 50/50.
----------------------------------------UD Agent can only run on 1 thread at 100% which in Taskmanager often shows at just 50% of total CPU resource. cheers

If HPF2 can't play well with others then in my opinion it's not ready for prime time. I'm going to remove it from my list until I see a posting that says the problem has been corrected.

There was never a moments intend to run UD agent and BOiNC side by side on 1 core. Each was made to use idle time on 1 or more CPU cores. If u decide to run 2 simultaneously, they will be competing..... it has nothing to do with prime time...BOiNC seemingly slightly more aggrssive. Now, UD agent credits on wall clock time, BOiNC on CPU time... if patient u can be eating the cake and having it (i think that's sort of the inglese expression). Count on your PC becoming sluggish as the 2 agents are battling it out.

Running two grid projects simultaneously simply isn't a sensible choice.
It wastes memory, gums up your IO, and leads to all sorts of conflicts and performance degradation. Now, under certain circumstances BOINC and UD can coexist, but it really isn't supported, and there's really no point. Just use BOINC. Process work sequentially. Let BOINC's CPU scheduler and WCG's load balancer take care of supplying and running the optimum mix of work. It's all automatic. |

Hello Mr_Boffo,
Reading this thread, I think that you only have 1 core on a hyperthreading CPU (Pentium 4). If you really want to try running 2 distributed processing applications at the same time, be sure that you have about a gigabyte of memory (to avoid excess paging) and run 2 BOINC threads. Lawrence |

Same trouble
Running Boinc/ Hdc v5.14 24h ==> 10%? remaining 30h?? ==> abort WU the next time i'll reset the project. Release 5.14 or data not ok from my point of view, waiting for more valuable informations about the context of these W.U.? ![]() |

Hi MRodenas,
----------------------------------------This thread is about the new HPF2 on UD agent being slow. Please open thread in Help Defeat Cancer with full description BOINC version, Computer ID, WU number, Quorum detail from the Result Status page, OS, Security info. Mine run perfectly fine, not a squeal or squeak.....ever. cheers PS, my last HPF2 raced thru just fine..... WCG did 32,507 of those on UD Agent Monday Dec.4, 06
