What does the Protein Picture respresent?

Hi,

I am new here and wanted to know what the application picture is telling me with regards to the software I downloaded.

It has words like Pair, Rosetta and Environment, is someone able to update me with what it all means.

Thanks. smile

Here's a link to a page on the WGC web site regarding the 3 values and what they represent.

The protein diagram is explained at the bottom of this page at the Institute for Systems Biology: http://www.systemsbiology.net/Default.aspx?pagename=humanproteome

Be sure to click on the Press Release at the top of the page.

Re: What does the Protein Picture respresent?

I still dont understand what the max section under "rosetta" means, al i understand from the link here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/projects_showcase/about_the_project.html is that the negative or lower the number under "min" the better.

Can someone help me out thanks.,

cool Re: What does the Protein Picture respresent?

Well, we are piecing together an idea of what Rosetta is doing from posts made by the WCG staff. Let me start off by listing the threads in which some of these threads appear:

Viktors 3 Dec 2004 on Screen Saver and Random Seed for Protein Folding:
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=783

Rick Alther 6 Dec 2004 on Work Units
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...?thread=574&offset=20

Rick Alther 6 Dec 2004 on Memory Usage of Rosetta
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=236

Rick Alther 8 Dec 2004 on Check Points and Killing Rosetta
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=892

Rick Alther 14 Dec 2004 How Many Work Units?
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=971

My idea is that we are folding a long string of protein bases derived from a DNA template into a crumpled up molecule which automatically forms many interconnections and scoring the resulting molecule according to 3 criteria. At the end of a Work Unit we return the resulting molecules together with their associated scores. There are a vast number of potential variant molecules for each protein string. The Agent View shows the current score for the particular variation we are creating, plus highest and lowest scores for the variations we have already tried. This is just history, and as has been explained, the Institute for Systems Biology is only interested in variants with low scores. The high scores are just shown to give us an idea of the range of variation.
