I've been running the grid agent on my desktop computer for about a year now. I have both the desktop and a laptop running behind a wireless router connected to a cable modem. Can I set up the agent on the laptop so that I can get credit against a single account or do I have to establish separate accounts for each computer?
Thanks Ken |

Ken,
You certainly can run the same account on both computers. In fact, I'd encourage you to do so! If you are running the United Devices version of the agent (most common on Windows), you can download the installer to your laptop and when it asks you to register, just check the box that says you are an existing user, and fill in your current member name and password. If you are running the BOINC version (more common on Linux and Mac, but also available for Windows), once again, download the appropriate installer, and fill in your current member name and password. If you're not sure which version of the software you have, you can consult this FAQ . |

I've set up the UD agent on my laptop to use the existing account from my desktop computer. There seem to be two problems, though.
First, the points and run time figures show all zeros. (I'm positive they showed the accumulated values for my account when I first ran the agent on my laptop -- could be wrong. If I click on "View your scores," I do see the current values for my account.) Second, whenever I bring up the agent, it starts at 0% done, instead of the work to-date on the problem. Never had this problem with my desktop. Thanks, Ken |

Hello Ken Sympson,
Yes, something is wrong. What project is your laptop running right now? Secondly, what security software do you have on your laptop? Is this the same as your desktop uses? When you bring up the UD client, does it show your correct membername? If you click on 'View your scores' does it take you to the correct scores on the website? Lawrence |

Both machines are working on Human Proteome Folding Phase 2. The security software is identical. It does show the correct member name, and when I click on "View your scores," it goes to the same account.
I noticed that after several minutes the % done seems to jump to 4.2 %. Is this just a question of the manner in which the application recovers and continues with its processing? |

Hello Ken Sympson,
Yes. Here is Rick Alther's description of the HPF2 graph function (which can go for many hours without updating the percentage progress: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=9945#77745 Lawrence |

Thanks. Perhaps that explains the dilemma. I also just noticed that my desktop (working the same job) seems to be stuck at 28% done. I'll not turn either off for awhile and watch what happens.
