project keeps stopping

after 11 hrs on this i'm only at 2.8% complete and it keeps stopping. if i restart my computer, the project restarts at 0% and runs up to 2.8% and just stops. It keeps the run time going, but that is it. What is the best route to figure out what is wrong, if there is something wrong?

Re: project keeps stopping

Hello creepy,
Here is what Rick Alther has to say: http://worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=9945#77745
If the 3 graphs in the graphics screen are progressing, the WU is running fine.

There are 2 stages per structure attempt and the percent complete is updated at the end of each stage. The first stage is very quick, thus you got to 3.6% easily. The percent complete will jump when the graphs reach the end and it starts another structure.

So everything is fine if the graphs are moving. The percentage will stay stuck for hours. Ignore that.

Lawrence

Hi Sekerob,
CPU Use: 0.0%
CPU Idle Time: 94%
Taskmanager accumulated CPU Time: 0:13:47
The CPU counter progressed 7 seconds in a time span of 25 minutes.

That sounds as though something else is running or perhaps wcg_hpf2_rosetta crashed in a way that kept the UD client from restarting it. A real puzzle.

Lawrence, it doesnt sound like something else is running couse he has a lot of CPU IDLE so it means that nothing is running.
I think that your agent had crushed.

Re: project keeps stopping

No it's not truly hung... in the experiment started BOiNC on a second thread which uses a Threadmaster throttle of 80 percent..... sits at 79/81 %. Changed the TM default a while back to 10%...remember that case.... :D

Ah, but the light shone idea d-oh.... Pulled the plug from internet, disabled antivir and away it went. Added the new process ud_9930506.exe (think it's referred to in BOiNC language as the Deamon) to the antivir exceptions, started Avast up again..... still going.

Lesson: We need to educate folks on training the security software, which not always gives warnings! May not be the one size fits all answer, but it sure was here.

PS: the ud_9930506.exe for HPF2 is huge compared to any of the ud_xxxxxx.exe progs. 4,835kb compared to 400 to 666kb of the others.

Somebody else reported a problem with a recent Avast update.

Re: project keeps stopping

Hey Lawrence,

I know :D.... a post by Feist ... He did not respond yet though.: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=10017#78096

Trouble is he reports a snippet of a file name that i cant find in either UD or BOiNC directory structures....in fact just did full all partition scan, and "wcg_gfx.state" is not there? Is it something only existing in memory? It seems this HPF2 does something extra it's not liking....why else does FAAH and HDC run fine on UD?

Anyway, i'm okay, but something is lingering.

cheers

PS... what time zone are u in..... you're always on around the Hawaiian daytime & nighttime ;>)

Re: project keeps stopping

well, i'm at 28hrs 4mins and i'm still at 2.8% complete. The 3 graphs on the side have stopped, but the model is still moving. I also checked the version and it is 5.1.1.0 so i really don't know what to do : ( I'm sorta computer handycapped lol! I don't know much about them. I set my throttle to 100% and my device performance is 194. Is there a step by step method to change my program? I know something has to be wrong here. Maybe my internet lagged and missed part of the file? I don't really know, i just want something to work on.
