Re: project keeps stopping

creepy,

as per my post, disable internet (pull the cable), disable all the security software u can and see if it speeds up..... the 2.8% is a hurdle where multiple attempts take place... after the 3 lines reached the end the progress jumped from 2.8 to 11.1% on my box.... 8 more segments to go it my guess..... they first segment took 30 hours before figuring out what was the blocking factor was.

What's Your AV?
What's Your Firewall? Are u just relying on the one build into Windows?
Anti Spam? Windows Defender Maybe?

Don't worry about file parts missing..... it's compressed and encrypted so it is complete for sure.

If there is even the slightest alternate process, which u can see in Taskmanager (go with mouse to bottom of screen and right click, than select from menu), u should see all activity. If the idle process is like 80/90+ %, something is holding up the UD agent. Look for anything steeling CPU time.

cheers.

Re: project keeps stopping

That's the latest version, but there are still some (rare) problem work units.

Abort the work unit by opening Task Manager and killing the process starting wcg_....

I'm going to let it ride out and see if the lines continue to move. thanks again for all the help. i will be in contact with this thread to update as soon as i have more info on my comp status. i would hate to abort something that may be working.

Hi creepy
I am curious. What processor and speed is it ? How much memory does it have ? What Operating System are you using ?
I'm running an Athlon XP 3200+ that's about 2.2 GHz, 1 Gb memory, using Win XP. Running at 24/7 time per WU to completition took about 5 to 6 hours under the old HPFP1 with BOINC. Haven't done any HPFP2 yet. You must be using UD ?

Re: project keeps stopping

Let it be known, that in leaps and bounds the HPF2 work unit reached 80% overnight going in increments of 2.8 > 11.1 each 2 step segment going in 11 % increments.... this is the one reported in a few posts up. I'll let it finish.

Re: project keeps stopping

Thanks Creepy
Seems we have similiar machines. Just over two days of 24/7 crunching is a lot of time for one protein. But, then if we had machines from the seventies the count would be in weeks or months. :>)
In the Comparative Project, using BOINC, I get one WU completed in one to two hours of computation depending on the WU.
Keep up the good work

Re: project keeps stopping

All:
The percent complete will not progress smoothly like it does in other projects because of the nature of the workunits: We don't know how long they're going to take. We only know when certain segments are completed. Thus, there will be jumps in terms of percent complete.

For UD users, if the graphs on the graphics screen are progressing the WU is progressing fine. Be warned, however, that it might be a few minutes between graph updates. The speed of the graphs depends highly on your CPU and the throttle setting.

I have been working on regular progress updates during the graphing phase. This change affects both BOINC and UD apps. This work has been completed and the update (v5.1.2.0), will go out soon.

With this change, you will see regular percent complete progress, but you will still see jumps when a structure is completed.

Hang in there. We haven't seen any workunits get stuck yet. The only open problem appears to be a rare case of a WU getting stuck at 100%, but we have not been able to reproduce the problem yet.

Thanks,

Re: project keeps stopping

so is using boinc quicker or slower than the ud? I have it all turned up, 100% throttle, running non-stop, and set 2 a high priority standard in task manager
