Hello,
I have the following problem with the Device profiles for my laptop. I have generated the home and the work profile work: network access every 3 days -> for the time under the week home: network access every 5 days -> for the weekend. I would like to activate the home profile on friday to get enough work units for the whole weekend because I don't want to connect on weekends to the network. On Monday the first access to the network should set the profile to work and only download for 3 days again until friday. I would have no problem with manual switching but I need a possiblity to force the routines that are normally run during a profile change including the workunit download: A small picturing: Weekday: Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa Su Profile: w w w w w->h h h->w ==>w-work h-home network days: 3 3 3 3 3->5 5 5-> 3 Any information how I can do this. The reason is that I don't want to leaf under week the workunit on the system in Ready to run status. I use BOINC 5.4.11 and run only WCG with all projects. Thanks in advance. Siegfried |

I think you could accomplish that easily and automatically using 2 distinct preferences override files and a batch (.bat) or VBScript that would rename one of the files global_prefs_override.xml at the appropriate time. Preference override files are described here.
More specifically, you would have 1 file named A and another file named B. A would have preferences for the weekend while B would have preferences for the week. The batch (or VBScript) would rename A to global_prefs_override.xml on the weekend and would rename B to global_prefs_override.xml on Monday. Something like that?? -- |

Hey Oesterreicher,
----------------------------------------think if u set your work buffer / connect schedule to 3.0 days in the profile, there will always be enough work to process over the weekend. Then on Friday just go into the menu and set connection to off and do the flush on Monday.... set connection to scheduled or always on. Note that alternating the profiles themselves would cause a delay in refilling the buffer. WCG sends at most 10 work units at the time....... it would thus take hours to fill the buffer up on a fast machine. Also, there is a daily limit of i think 120, which can only be overridden for a specific machine on request and demonstrated ability to process 120 a day. cheers.
