Re: UDATE FROM PROTEIN FOLDING CENTRAL

A week's work returned zero points or cpu time....ho hum.

If anyone here knows why that should be...I am sure grid/UD would appreciate the feedback cos it has them stumped!!!

Have you tried the "On" switch? I find the processing goes much faster tongue

Re: UDATE FROM PROTEIN FOLDING CENTRAL

are you saying that this happened at grid.org or here at WCG?

Re: UPDATE FROM PROTEIN FOLDING CENTRAL

Server problems hit grid.org around mid-June. It is hard to be specific because each fix seemed to lead to another problem. It's the way of the world [at least - the server part of it]. sad The best way for onlookers to deal with it is just to let the experts work and work while everybody else plans vacations. biggrin

Yup, tried that and Folding fired up........haha tongue

edit........Since new work was uploaded at grid....many many people have had Rosettas returned uncredited.
The stats aren't so much the problem as not knowing if the sent work is "getting there" and is useful, so to speak.

Re: UDATE FROM PROTEIN FOLDING CENTRAL

is it just me or does grid.org seem to be way less professional and so much less organized?

they seem to have so many problems managing their data.

has grid.org been around much longer than WCG. This, to me, could be the only explanation why they have so many members.

Quite frankly I don't see the benefit of having two organizations working toward the same casue with virtually the same tools (but one of them doing a poorer job than the other). Why don't they just combine the two under one big umbrella. Things would be a lot easier to manage and all members would be on the same page in terms of information that comes along.

give me your thoughts

Ditto, however, WCG is striding for human benefits from crunching, the grid.org is just doing whatever... or at least that's what I know... perhaps 2 subdivisions of wcg, a human side, and the grid side, all on the same server, but it has kinda separate sections? Just a thought...

Re: UDATE FROM PROTEIN FOLDING CENTRAL

All the projects have their occasional problems.
I am sure this place has had it's share of downtime/outages etc....and if it hasn't, it will occur at some point.

Regarding the "why are two working for same cause" question.....well that answer lies here as this is the latter of the two wink

But at least you guys have "valid" work units at the moment biggrin

Re: UDATE FROM PROTEIN FOLDING CENTRAL

Yeah!! Let's rock n' roll and CRUNCH the remaining 30%!! And, when I say "rock n' roll" I don't mean wimpy new rock but hardcore, full-on old school dynamite that makes your ears bleed and your teeth chatter! Way to go everyone but now is the time to pour it on. Finishing HPF will be a milestone for grid computing. Not only will it advance science and medicine (Yhea baby!) but it will demonstrate just how powerful grid computing is and bring it to the attention of more scientists and more computer owners--and that number is growing exponentially every year. PCs are becoming cheapaer and more pervasive every day almost. Imagine the power of potentially billions of high power processors crunching away at physics, biology and engenering problems. Imagine what this could all lead to in 20 years. laughing As for grid.org, I hope they get things fixed but I left them right before the problems. (Maybe I caused it sad I did leave because I thought WCG was better organized and simpler to use. I still think that.
