Download error with IE, not under Firefox or Chrome

I've run into an error with Phoca Download that only occurs with IE. I've checked out 2 different computers (one XP, one Vista) with IE8, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari, and only IE8 seems to have the problem.

I have a series of files that are available to download from my website. Almost all of the files have been converted to PDF. I've tried all of the PDF files, and none of them work. I have a couple multimedia files (JPG and MP3) that I am able to download. I normally use Firefox and Chrome for development, so I didn't notice it until someone else told me about it. The error I get says that the file is not available for download.

My site uses Joomla 1.5 with the built-in SEF running on an Apache server with mod_rewrite. I've installed the new version of Phoca Download (1.3.3) to see if that fixed the bug.

Hi, can I see the site where this occurs. I am testing it with IE8 and get no problems there?

Hi, I see now, the IE cannot find the file or it has no access to this file. Maybe try to check the settings of your server, if there is no some limit, etc. :(

Jan,

Thanks for looking at this. I have unlimited server file storage and unlimited server bandwidth with my account, so I know it isn't that type of problem. Also, I get the error when I try to download the file under IE8, but I can go right over to Firefox or Chrome and download the same file, so that's another indication.

I think the error has to do with the fact that I'm using a secure server for my entire site. (I've got a Joomla global configuration server setting of Force SSL = Entire Site.) I temporarily changed the setting to "None" and was able to download the file. When I changed the setting to "Entire Site", I received the error you saw and was unable to download the PDF file.

Hi, for now I have no experiences with SSL + IE, I think, there was some similar problem in this forum, but cannot find it :-(

Jan,

I did a search on SSL and found the following topic that proposes a solution.

I'm going to give this a try and see what happens.

FOLLOW-UP -- This did work. I'm not exactly sure what it's doing, but it's a kludge fix that seems to work.
