Display Inaccessible File does not work with plugin?

Is it true that if using the content plugin, that the Display Inaccessible File checkbox has no effect? I check the box, and the download link and icon still appear... It's not a big deal. I think I can use the HIDER plugin to display a message to unregistered users that will display above the download link...
