Frontend Upload Issues

I recently installed Phoca Download component and additional modules and plugins. I set up sample categories and sections and even uploaded a couple test files in the 'Backend' which appear normally on the Frontend.
However, when I log into the Frontend, either with an Admin login or user login, and try to upload files I have issues. I can browse and grab the file etc....But it won't allow me to select a category or section to post it within. They just read 'Category' and 'Section' and don't show a drop down menu of the options.
I've checked and rechecked settings, but can't figure out why it won't show the sections or categories in the selection windows.
I tried uploading a screen shot of what I am explaining but got an error saying it couldn't upload it here.
Thank you in advance!!

OK now I am an idiot....Its always the small things right?
Now when I do a test upload of a 'Word' document which is an authorized type, {doc=application/msword}...I get this error:
File not uploaded
This file type is not supported (or there are some restrictions on the server).
Any ideas?

Hi, try to change the mime type, try to test if e.g. text files can be uploaded.

I went and looked at the MIME settings in the Joomla Global and all appears fine. I test both .pdf files and .txt files and both uploaded fine without issue. For some reason the .doc files it doesn't like.
I even tried telling the MIME to ignore .doc files and shut off the system to check for MIME types to see if it would make a difference and it didn't.
Any ideas?

Did you change it in Joomla! or in Phoca Download Settings?

I am having an issue with uploading MS Excel and Word Documents as well and I cannot figure out how to make this work. I keep getting " File not uploaded.....this file type is not supported (or there are some restrictions on the server). I see where you had suggested the MIME settings.....can you ellaborate on the proper location to find the MIME settings and in what format am I to allow the .docx or xls or xlts?
Your help is greatly appreciated!
Todd

...Okay I found the MIME (Global Media Settings) and I added the extensions to the "Legal Extensions (File Types)" as ,xlst, docx, xlsx which are all MS Office 2010 file extensions...........yet the old MS Office extensions work such as .doc?? Any help on this issue would be a huge help!
Thanks in advance!
