Hello there,

As most posts, this one is requesting assistance with troubles after installation. Let me begin by mentioning what the problem is and what I've done in an attempt to resolve the issue.

The problem, as obviously described by this thread's subject, is that I cannot upload files using Phoca Download. I've successfully installed the module, ensured all parts are working, and set up the proper categories, sections, user permissions, accepted file types (within the module and joomla), accepted file size (within the module and joomla), category permissions, section permissions, and I've also attempted to upload with SEF functionality disabled. So far everything I have tried has returned this one simple and yet pesky error...

For whatever reason, when I downloaded PhocaDownload it did not come with language files. In writing my own this error will seem unfamiliar to you, so I included the original language request code in hopes you will identify which error is being returned. Whenever I attempt to upload a file, two errors are returned.

PHOCADOWNLOAD_FILE_NOT_UPLOADED (Error: The file could not be uploaded)
WARNINVALIDIMG (This file type is not supported!)

Well, seeing as there are only two possible situations causing this, I went on a hunt. I removed all possible mime types and file extensions from any "disallowed" fields, updated the "allowed" mime types and file extensions to be as specific as possible, enabled "Web Services" from the joomla global configuration panel, disabled MIME checking, disabled restricted uploads, and increased the maximum upload size (within the module and joomla, interestingly enough it did not change the maximum file size value displayed on the upload page).

As I mentioned, I have SEF enabled. However, I don't believe that's the issue since I disabled it, reloaded the page (ensuring none of the SEF tags were in the address bar), and continued to receive the error messages upon all upload attempts. In case it's of any interest, GZIP compression and Apache mod_rewrite are enabled.

Could anyone please assist me with this dilemma? I've tried quite a bit (including searching this forum) attempting to resolve this issue. However, all of my attempts have been far from fruitful.

Hi, please let me know where you cannot upload the files? In backend or in frontend?

Did you check the permissions and ownership of your files and folders, did you try to enable FTP layer?

I am having the same issue. I have previously uploaded files which are working. But now I cannot upload any new files without getting the same error.

I cannot load from the backend.

Which error you exaclty get?

This file type is not supported (or there are some restrictions on the server).

PS. I have re-checked my permissions. I have uploaded several times in the past with no trouble. I can even upload to the phocadownload folder through the joomla media manager folder. If you can think of anything I may be overlooking please let me know.

Hello and thank you for assisting me in this matter. I cannot upload files via the front-end. If by permission and ownership you mean the file on my hard-drive, yes, it can be read and written to. If you mean my server, which file/folder needs their permission(s) checked? Regarding the FTP layer, I assume you mean the Joomla FTP feature. No, I did not have it enabled when I was encountering the error outlined above. However, upon reading your question I turned the FTP on and attempted to upload yet another file. The same error was produced.


UPDATE: I was doing some more experimenting with MIME types and different files. When attempting to upload a zip file (allowed by Joomla and PhocaDownload) I receive a Joomla error along with a PhocaDownload error. Here they are:

* JFile::read: Unable to open file: ''
* Warning! - Failed to move file.

PHOCADOWNLOAD_FILE_NOT_UPLOADED (The file was not uploaded!)
PHOCADOWNLOAD_UNABLE_TO_UPLOAD_FILE (We could not upload your file!)

Still quite strange since the file types are approved by Joomla and PhocaDownload.

Well, I played around with the settings again. Still no joy. Do you have any ideas?

Hi, you should check the ovnership of the files. Ask your webhosting operator for information about ownership of files and folders (mostly the folder phocadownload).

If you are using Adobe Flash plugin 10 or later version you cannot use flash based uploader, you need to disable it in Settings of Phoca Download.
