Problem: Can't upload file in subdirectory

I'm using Phocadownload 1.3.1. and I'm having problems with uploading a file in a subdirectory. I can create a subdirectory but I'm not able to go into that subdirectory and upload my file. Instead the file can only be uploaded in the root which in my case is /htdocs/images/stories/franchise. Permissions for this directory are OK. What's wrong?

Additional information may be needed.
Have you checked ownership of the subfolder?
What are the versions of the software and OS you are using? (PHP, MySQL, Joomla, Phoca Download)

As my colleague is away for the day I'll answer your questions Codejunkie.
We are running:
FreeBSD 6.2
PHP 5.2.8
MYSQL 4.1.22
Joomla 1.5.15
Phoca Download 1.3.1
I can see the subfolders but when you click them nothing happens.

Hey again,
Problem is solved I had to add a '/' at the end of the absolute path.
