error saving filename when uploading from front end

I have been uploading photos from the front end without any trouble for more than an hour. Suddenly when I try to upload a photo I get the error "error saving filename." I thought perhaps the file was too large, so I made it smaller. I still get the error. Now, even though I deleted the image from the control panel, it still says the filename exists. I renamed it and I still get an error.

I have been setting this up for several users on my site. I was able to upload 2 photos for each of 5 users until I got to this user. Now, I get the "error saving filename" error no matter which user's folder I try. I looked at the maximum file size setting and made it 0 so it could be any size.

Now what? How do I fix it? Obviously my settings were correct because I was able to upload 8 other photos without any problem. This is very frustrating. It will be a big problem for me if this happens to my users who will eventually be uploading the photos.

Hi,

is the file corrupted? Have you tried another picture?

It's not the file. It did the same thing for any photo and for any of the users I had created categories for. I eventually played with the maximum storage size and that seems to have fixed it for now. It didn't work if I put a zero (to mean no maximum). I'm wondering if this will happen again, though.

I have just experienced the same exact problem. I installed Phoca Gallery yesterday for a new photo club. I had been happily uploading pictures successfully on my account and other accounts. Today, a member told me he is getting that "Failed to save filename" error. I tested it out, and sure enough, I also always get that error now, even on files I had successfully uploaded before. I looked in the server folder and the main image files are there but no thumbnails are created. We are very much looking for a solution, thank you.

Hi, check you server settings:

- if ftp layer is enabled
- if you have rights and ownership for saving and creating files
- if there is a space for files, etc...

Thanks for the very quick reply, Jan. The answer is "Yes" to all the above. Tucker's solution of increasing storage size did not work for me. Some maybe important settings are

- Max Upload Size = 2000000
- Max Category Disk Space = 50000000 (50MB)
- 13 categories with 5 actually having viewable images
- large Image Width = 1800, Large Image Height = 1000
- Medium Image Width = 225, Medium Image Height = 225
- Small Image Width = 50, Small Image Height = 50

There was a total of 21 images in the five categories before the propblem occured. Like I mentioned, during failure mode, no thumbnails were created but the original files were uploaded to the correct folder.

Since many people were waiting, I decided to re-install Phoca Gallery. I can upload successfully once again, but all the categories do not show up, though image files are still there. So I will now recreate the categories and maybe they still maintain the link to the data. Or could the database be corrupted? I exported the site database sometime yesterday before the problem. Can I now just do an import of the Phoca part of the database? I have never done a partial database import but if that's possible I think now that I should have attempted that before re-installing Phoca Gallery.

It would be great to find the cause of this problem or I will be nervous that it will happen again when we have many more files. Thanks for your help and great work.

I've done this a couple of times with phpmyadmin and it works perfectly. Don't forget to backup the whole database (or the whole site) before you do the import. Before I did this on a live website I tried this first on some local installations...

Ok, the problem hit my site again. I re-installed Phoca Gallery and this got uploads working again. Then today, after a user uploaded 35 files, he started getting the problem and reported it to me. I tried it myself, and sure enough, I also cannot upload. Like before, I even tried uploading images that had previously uploaded successfully.

When this happens, the actual file does get uploaded. However, thumbnails are not created.

Please help, our members are starting to get frustrated. Thank you.

This is discouraging to me as well. I chose this program because it would let my members upload from the front end. They will give up quickly if we have trouble like this.

Hi,

when a problem occurs while creating thumbnails, Phoca sets 'thumbnails creation' to no. Could you check if it's enabled or if it's disabled?
