My gallery is getting quite big now and i have noticed it is struggling to load the information to display the list of my photos. Even if I set it to display 5!
Pagination is enabled.
It loads the page for about 4 minutes then gives a white screen. Sometimes it loads the page but without the joomla framework.
My hosting company say its not a server problem and I need to contact the developer.

Backend or Frontend or both? How much items per page is standard value in Back and frontend?

My website works fine on the front-end and even in the normal Joomla back end screens. its only on Phoca Gallery 'images' section which is set to show 10 images at a time. 'Category' page works fine, its just the images.

check: backend --> Phoca Gallery --> Info -->
Enable Thumbnail Generation=(should be disabled)
Pagination Thumbnail Generation=(should be enabled)
Clean Thumbnails=(should be disabled)
