problem to create thumbs

Hello,
i have one website where with last J1.5 installed. I have started to install phoca but i have problem when i try to upload images.
the website hangs up at "arresta creazione anteprime" in italina lanuguage. It should be "stop thumbnails creation" or similar.
Below this text nothing appears.
What could be wrong? the GD version is 2.0.34.
on php the memory limit is set to 64M and the minimum file size is 20M.
