Hello,
I'm running the latest Phoca Gallery on the latest Joomla! Version.
I hav a hugh bunch of pictures (approx. 20.000) in 8 Categories and round about 280 Subcategories. Everything is working fine so far.
My Problem is that in every subcategory there are pictures that shall be seen by everybody (public) and some shall only be seen by registered users.
How can I perform this best? I already browsed the documentation, I have googled and searched this forum. All I have found is an answer from 2008 (in thsi forum) that says That you should create 2 separate categories - one for public and one for registered access.
if I do so, the registered users see 2 subcategories with the same name. That's not very nice. Is there another way around it?
Did something change since the last 4 years?
Any help is very appreciated!
Kind Regards
Abraxas

Re: Pictures for Public and/or Registered Users
Hi, permissions are applied to categories only (to save server performance) so for now no other advice there

Re: Pictures for Public and/or Registered Users
Hello Jan,
thank you very much for the update. Now I know that I have to solve it via the categories and the user rights management.
I already found out how to do it and since other people may have similar problems here's the hint how I have solved this:
I created 2 categories for each event. One containing only the pictures for the non-registered-visitors of the site and one containing as well the public as the registered-only pictures.
The category containing all pictures is viewable only for registered users. Now here's the trick around: The public gallery is ONLY viewable for guests but NOT for registered users. "How the hell do I do this?" - well, here's the answer in the joomla wiki:
http://docs.joomla.org/ACL_Tutorial_for ... nd_Modules
I hope that helps other people two.
Finally to all phoca developers: Please continue your great work on that amazing piece of software!
Kind Regards
