Will J1.6 version use ACL

I realize that PD is in the RC stage. I am testing it out on a J1.6 site now. When adding a category, I am given a list of users for access rights and upload rights. Will this be expanded/changes to include the standard Joomla user groups instead of individual users?

Hi, I don't undestand, it is in use now.

The standard ACL is used:

Access - the standard Joomla! access levels is used: public, registered, special, any custom
Access Rights - the selection of users is possible too. it is option to expand the standard access level.

Maybe I am just confused...

When I add a new category, there are two boxes - one for Access Rights and one for Upload Rights. Both of them have only:

- All registered users
- Nobody
Then a list of the each user

Nowhere in the list does it give me the option to restrict by Joomla group.

Maybe I am doing something wrong?

Hi

Phoca Download 2.0 is really a cool component, but I have the same problem as momentis. I don't see an option to restrict upload rights by Joomla! Access Level. Is this possible or will this feature be integrated?

Thanks

Thomas

Hi, sorry for confusing and misunderstanding, I was thinking about download. No upload does not support the ACL yet, added into feature request list.

I am really confused by Jan's statement. When I add a Category, I am not seeing where I can restrict access to that category by Joomla user group. I have attached a screenshot to show. I have several Joomla user groups configured. However, the restrictions withing the category for Access and Upload do NOT show these groups.

I am running Joomla 1.6 and Phoca Download 2.0.0 RC2

Bug?

Hi momentis

You cannot restrict access by user group. Currently you have 3 options which can been seen in your screenshot:

1. Access: Restrict access by Access Level
2. Access Rights: Restrict access by user
3. Upload Rights: Restrict upload by user

What confuses ME is that the upload restriction is not working as I would expect. I created a category "Test" and chose upload rights "- Nobody -". After that I logged into the backend with an administrator (no super user). I could create a file and put it into the category "Test". :? Is this a bug?

Hi Thomas,

I realized that RIGHT after I posted, but could not reply because the board went down (spammer message).

I confirmed your situation as well. It appears to me that PD ignores any access restrictions when logged into the backend.

I still find the ACL implementation in PD confusing. Seems to me it would be much more effective and useful to have just two restrictions on each PD category - Download Rights and Upload Rights. Then allow the user to select one or more Joomla user groups for each. The reason being that, as it is implemented now, I would need to give each user group it's own access level in Joomla in order to be able to restrict a PD category to just that user group. That seems to be rather counter-intuitive.

The component itself is wonderful, but the ACL implementation just does not work for me.

Hi, these are frontend access rights, not backend, backend rights are managed by Joomla! - Joomla! manages user rights for the extensions (still under development)

Phoca Download rights follows Joomla! ACL for the frontend:

Access - select ACL of users who can download (see) the download files in frontend
Access rights - more detailed - it was a feature request - to be able to add access right of the category for selected user only
Upload rights - selected user can upload to the category

All this is about frontend.

I think, Joomla! does not work (the new ACL) with Joomla user groups, but with access levels  (Anyway the ACL in Joomla! is still not finished)

I think I am just not being clear, or perhaps it is just ignorance on my part.

I have been using several J16 extensions that allow me to use Joomla User Groups to manage access. They are not managing access by Access Levels. That's the functionality that I am looking for in a download component. If not Phoca, that's fine. I will just need to look elsewere :|
