Can set categories & sections more flexible?

Hi ALL,

Is it a MUST to set a category in a specified section? How about if the category fit for multiple sections? Say, I would like to make a magazine site, and publish the pdf files for visitors' download based on the Year.

Example/

Category: 1/ Topic-A 2/ Topic-B 3/ Topic-C
Section: 1/ 2009 2/ 2010 3/ 2011

My original idea is all topics are under the year like this:

Section Categories
====== ============
2009 ----- Topic-A
----- Topic-B
----- Topic-C

2010 ----- Topic-A
----- Topic-B
----- Topic-C

However, I found that the 'Phoca Download' do not allow the same categories to be in multiple section... does there any way to do so? Or I get it wrong? Please advise the approach to fit for the requirement, many thanks!! :?

OK... I saw the latest 2.0 alpha version which is focus for the joomla 1.6, and the description said that the 'section' would be no more support, and the categories would allow unlimited level~~ I think this is my way to go and fit for my requirement!

I just don't know what should I do now.... using the v1.3.6 or v2.0 alpha 1 version? I am not sure that if I use the v1.3.6 and setup the different section level, whether the new v2.0 version providing a upgrade path to convert the 'section' as 'upper category' ? If not, how should we handle the structure?

Please advise if anyone from Phoca can answer.... many thanks!!! :?:

Hi, no idea if I will be able to do a "transform" script (this will be very difficult in the core too - from 1.5 to 1.6 - as the sections will be not in articles too, so e.g. links will be obsolete :-( ) I for now have time problem to overwrite all the extensions to be working in 1.6 so maybe someone will create a "transform" script :idea:
