I have a stupid question - what are branding strips?

Some brands/manufacturers have an 1/2" strip on their pattern papers. I would like you to cut off these strips and use at least 2 on your layout.
These are Vicki Boutin papers!

I made a card for my submission: Grab 5 for a Birthday : Gallery : A Cherry On Top
I used 49 & Market designer paper, wood veneer, naked chipboard, stitching (faux stitching on the die cut mat) and the color brown.
