Re: D's Part One - Eeyore's Curiosity...
As a child, I wanted to become a chef. Made my first 3 course meal aged 10, and when I was 12 I would cook 12 course Asian meals for 20 people. Went to a 2 week work placement when I was 15 with one of the Norwegian Chef campions, and loved it, but decided I wanted a life were I would have more time for family. I became an Interior Architect instead, but 3 months after I started my dream job, I injured my shoulder at the gym. 14 years later, I’m 100% disabled because of mental health issues that came after the injury, live alone and don’t have a family. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I followed my childhood dream!

I wanted to be a school teacher or a librarian where I could read all the books I wanted.  However, my senior year in high school, I discovered bookkeeping.  Went to work and night school to get an accounting degree.  Marriage happened and then kids.  Ended up with an Associate Degree with Accounting and that took me all the way to my current retirement.  I loved working with numbers.

I wanted to be a teacher. That didn't happen. I have had a few different jobs since then. My favorite was a marine dispatcher in St. Croix coordinating tug boats to bring in large oil tankers. I now work for a small local newspaper and do some petsitting.

Re: D's Part One - Eeyore's Curiosity...
I wanted to be a lot of things when I was a kid...but mostly I was really good a science so first I thought I wanted to be a doctor, but then I realized when I looked at injuries, I actually felt pain in my body (I can't explain it. I guess I was just a really imaginative kid.) So, like many here, I thought I'd like to be a marine biologist/dolphin trainer. SO glad I didn't go that route. I've seen Blackfish (among a lot of other evidence) and I would *not* have been able to conscience the way the animals are treated and would have had to drop out. I did become a dog trainer though, a job I loved fiercely. Teaching people to communicate effectively with their dogs was so rewarding and getting paid to play with people's dogs was the cherry on top ;). By junior high school I knew I wanted to be a writer, which is what I did and still do. I'm glad I didn't want to be a ballerina instead, or even that doctor I thought I wanted to be so early on because I've been diagnosed with a number of genetic...er...hiccups that have resulted in constant pain that prevents me from doing a lot of things, including working outside the home. As a writer I can still do my work. Had I been a doctor or whatever, my whole life's work would have been impossible to follow, the way I lost my ability to teach dog training in the classroom and run the rodent rescue group I founded, which breaks my heart badly enough. At least I get to continue one of my dreams. If you're curious about my work, you can see samples at http://www.evnoechel.com

Re: D's Part One - Eeyore's Curiosity...
I wanted to be to be a computer engineer... this was in the late 70's... technology was reserved for the boys and home economics for the girls back then...I was pressured by my parents to go to nursing school which I did great in the academics, not so much in the blood, gore and barf department as my first clinical was ER Trauma.... so I told my parents I didn't want to waste their money, dropped out and joined the Navy. Two and a half years later I had my degree in computer science and engineering from the same college I dropped out of as they were our satellite university at my first command. I became a cryptotech analyst for the US Navy for 8 years, then went to reserves where I took a civilian job as a database developer for Electronic Data Systems (Ross Perot's company). Then Hewlett Packard bought them out in 08 so I took my golden parachute and retired. I was blessed to have a mother who taught me to be independently financially secure and who taught me how to invest.  I am now a crafty and self-care encouraging podcaster whose passion is paper crafting, the outdoors, and serving my community.

As a child, I wanted to be an actor. What I actually do is work with data for non-profit fundraising, which is definitely more suited to my personality!

When I was a child I wanted to be a nurse - read all the Cherry Ames books or a ballerina or a horse trainer. None of which lasted. Later I wanted to be a teacher (runs in the family - we call it our "family business"). After marriage, one child and a divorce I ended up in Medical/Dental claims for 20 years (hence satisfying a medical job desire) - at one time being a "trainer" thus full-filling my teacher desire. Later I went back to the community college for some computer classes and became a tutor and Instructor's assistant and running some computer labs. Now I am retired.

I wanted to be so many things, the list is looong.  One thing I remember is a professional singer.  Haha.  NOPE.  The closest I got was the high school choir.  LOL. Another thing I wanted to do is be a hairstylist.  I used to cut all my dolls' and Barbie dolls' hair - even the yarn ones.  Yep - I became a hairstylist and did that for many many years.  I also wanted to become a police officer.  NOPE.  Didn't happen, although hubby was, and still is in LE.  I do something similar though.  Ok, that is enough - I would be here all day if I kept going.  LOL

I wanted to be a mommy first, which I became.

Then I wanted to be a teacher and in high school I wanted to become a psychiatrist. In the end, I became a technical editor for a government contractor. My favorite job though was being a mommy, which I still get to do.

Re: D's Part One - Eeyore's Curiosity...
I wanted to be a fashion designer. I can even remember in elementary school drawing people with pretty dresses. Once I went to college I found that I was really good at sketching a still life and drawing just about anything, with the exception of the human figure. Can't draw fashion if you have trouble sketching all the right curves in the human body. I sucked at drawing legs lol. I was taking graphic design courses and really started loving the photography classes and calligraphy classes and the illustration classes. It was all I ever wanted to do was something in art. I had a class where for the whole semester we had to design an entire magazine, by sketching things out and using markers (no computers then Cherries). I had a blast and fell in love with page design! I got a job at our local shopping newspaper, starting at the bottom first and then eventually designing ads. It is where I met my wonderful dh! Designing ads for a shopper is not all that glorious when you have customers trying to cram every little thing into the space they purchased, but eventually I ended up with a client that put out a business newspaper and she had me do the design from top to bottom. I also designed all her fliers and newsletters and special event invitations. I loved it. Now I am retired and I design pages for myself and my family : ) and still loving it!

At first, I wanted to be an artist. As I got older, I thought about becoming a lawyer. By the time I started college, I decided to be an elementary teacher. Teaching preK- 1st grade, I was able to integrate lots of fun art projects into our learning!

I always wanted to be a teacher, until I got to high school. I loved my art classes and wanted to do that every day, so I got a graphic design degree. A few years later, I realized I hate working mostly alone...so Art Teacher it is!  Combining two things I love!

Do remember being little and thinking about what you wanted to be when you grew up?  Eeyore wants to know what that was and what you ended up doing?

From the I want to be a Mom to an Astronaut... what was that dream?  Did it come true?  Did you become something better?  Life altered plans?

Give me the childhood dream and the reality :)

I wanted to be a fashion designer. I am not, lol.  I do a lot of sewing, though.  I always knew I wanted to be a Grandma.  I am a Grandma to twelve.  They make me very happy!
