I'm so sorry. We recently went through the same thing. My husbands company moved us from PA to TX 2 years ago, not 8 months here and they decided to restructure. I had the same feelings as you . I was a hot mess. My husband is a planner so we were able to get by with the severance until he started a new job, the first job he took he ended up leaving, again I was a hot mess. Luckily the offers started coming in and he was able to pick the job that paid well and had good, not great benefits. My husband is in his 50's as well. Hang in there. Don't panic until there is reason to panic. Help him spruce up his resume and get it out there. Take a look at the package and we will all pray it works out that he finds a great job and quickly. Everyone says here in North TX is the place to be. It's certainly growing like crazy even over just the 2 years we have been here. I never thought I would leave PA, yet here we are. Hugs.

Laura I am so very sorry. I hope so much he can find something right away. He has a lot of experience and after being with the same company for 30 years that should all account for something when looking for another job. And good luck on your interview. Good luck to both of you. I am so sorry you are going through this. So many ((hugs)).
Laura, I'm so sorry to hear this. I can imagine how devastated you are right now.
I don't have advice, so I'll send some good vibes your way. Often times things happen for a reason and maybe there's something bigger and better waiting. Maybe there's a company out there looking for someone who can deliver. Have faith this will work out. (so much easier to say than to do, I know.) (((Hugs))) You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you so much for all your kind words of advice and encouragement, Cherry friends. Talk about timing . . . Deanna's thread about all of us being friends and loving each other was the topic of the day. And then, ten minutes later . . . BOOM! It turns out I needed to rely on that. Information is being given to the employees slowly. We did find out his last day is March 31. Oh, and our little town where this Macy's tech hub is located was even on MSNBC a few hours ago. Apparently, all the business sectors are talking about this "plan".
I'm doing the best I can to stay calm and upbeat. Mike's not doing well. I could tell the minute he came in the door. So, I've got to take care of him now.
Thank you again, friends. I appreciate it more than you can imagine.

OCD is not an adjective. It is not a personality quirk. It is not synonymous with being organized. It is a complex and debilitating mental health illness that affects people of all ages and walks of life, and is defined by the presence of unwanted, intrusive thoughts and repetitive actions. I am an OCD warrior and I fight for my son.
So many ((hugs)) to both of you Laura.Laura wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2020 8:25 pmThank you so much for all your kind words of advice and encouragement, Cherry friends. Talk about timing . . . Laura,
so sorry to hear your news.
my husband lost his job August last year. He is almost 60 and was in construction most of his life. he has not been physically able to do that kind of work for quite a few years. Imagine starting from scratch at 55.
Things will work out some how, maybe even better.
Sending positive vibes!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am SO sorry! I 2008 a year after we got married DHL decided to move their facility out of Wilmington Ohio 10,000 jobs were lost in one town. We both worked there and my husband was in his 50's. It took a while but we got back on our feet. He now has a good job working for Humana but he has to have a second job so we can have extra cash to spend. The bad thing is I am no longer able to work because of my back injury so he is soul breadwinner until I a 57 and can get my pension from Aramark.
In 2006 I lost my job with Aramark. 6 months later I went to work at ABX and met my hubby. I do believe God was working in my favor. I couldn't have met a better man!
I am sending you all the good vibes needed. good luck on your job interview.

Firs, lots and lots of (((HUGS)))!! It truly sucks!! But, it may be a while before any real changes take place. The co may have decided to be up front and forward right away before rumors started flying. This gives your family time to make a game plan; hopefully you get that job you are interviewing for! And get dr appointments squared away, hopefully start putting s little extra $ in the bank, seeing where you can cut back on some bills. That is what I would do, just try to be proactive rather than sit and cry, driving myself and my hubby nuts!!! Please keep us posted and vent whenever you need too!!! Thinking of you!!

Sending you hugs, good vibes, peace, and prayers, my friend. I would be totally overwhelmed by such news, too. I read of Macy's re-structuring and I was sad, because it is one of my favorite places to shop, but that is nothing compared to all the people who will lose their jobs. The only thing I can say is I do truly believe that when God closes a door, he opens a window. The right opportunity will present itself for your family. I just know it!

I am so sorry to hear this. I, too, was in this position 4 years ago. After 9 years with a company (not 30 but even so...) I was let go along with three other people in my group. Everyone over the age of 50. Coincidence? Company said they were 'revenue challenged' yet they posted lower level openings in that same team not 3 weeks later. Needless to say I was devastated as my salary was 70% of the household and we had just moved into a more expensive property AND spent $40k of our savings on a renovation just one month before my termination.
You will survive. There are options for insurance - not great but not impossible including COBRA for the short term. I can't pretend it won't be hard - it wasn't for me. My age was absolutely a challenge. I think the tech world is more forgiving but I was in marketing - digital marketing - which is totally full of young 20-somethings. Time after time I was told I wasn't a good "cultural fit". But I survived. When my severance ran out after a few weeks I took an hourly job at Lowes. Low pay, very hard work, but it kept food on the table and gave me some insurance. After 2 years of no regular job offers whatsoever I got a contractor position. Your husband will likely have to go that route for a bit being in tech. That contractor position became a full time position and then a promotion and another promotion - all within 3 years of saying yes to a low-paying contractor job. It wasn't what I had but it was enough. It meant we didn't have to sell the house. And it was far more than what many people make so I counted my blessings.
IT WILL GET BETTER. But don't wait. As soon as you can go through every one of your bills to see where money can be saved. Reduce services where possible (e.g., we cancelled our monthly pest control), cancel all subscriptions to save $. I was so shocked to realize how much we were spending on stuff that I didn't need (let alone forgot I had) - Ancestry.com, Netflix, America's Test Kitchen subscription, Silhouette Store subscription, credit monitoring.... Couponing and using iBotta became a fun game for me and my daughter to challenge ourselves to save more and more. We switched to cheaper brands for a lot of things. And I cried many times thinking we would have to sell the house and farm that I had fallen so in love with. But I knew we were still so fortunate to have as much as we had. We pulled through. We found that we could live comfortably on so much less and frankly felt better when we realized we were no longer so wasteful.
Stay strong and know we are all here for you whatever you need
