Thinking I need
to start sorting and storing my unthemed embellies in my stash by color, so I can use them more.  What do you do?  Also, my themed embellies definitely need sorted and combined.  Right now I have things sorted in clear, plastic shoeboxes by type of embellishment and it is driving me crazy trying to find what I have!

Re: Thinking I need
I have a tiny hardware-type storage container w/drawers for very small things, sorted by color.  I also have a spinning rack and wall rack that I have packages hanging on, loosely organized by color.  All my non-alpha chipboard and brads are in stacks/containers I have to look through though.

Re: Thinking I need
I have a bookcase with about half the shelves full of binders. I have themed binders but I also have 2 for alphas (colors/multi) & (neutrals/pastels), 1 for WORDS (sticker phrases, rubons, vellum, whatever), and 1 for MISC stuff - color coded tags, random stickers, just...whatever LOL. I think I need 2 MISC binders lol. Little embellishments like brads, buttons, bling, journaling cards etc - that stuff is in tins or baskets if it doesn't fit a theme.
Happy Scrapping!

Re: Thinking I need
Mine's by color and I like using smaller type plastic cases with the dividers in them. I can easily grab one (I have several about 7x5 ish) and see what's in each bin. They stack nicely on my shelf. This works for items such as brads, and smaller type embellies.

I have storage containers grouped in sections. Die cuts that I've cut with my Cricut that I haven't used. Holidays/Special Occasions. Cats/Babies/School. Summer/Flowers/Tags/Journaling spots. Then the DOGS have their own special container.

I use the scrap rack to sort my embellies. Love it! I have them sorted by theme and then a tab labeling each so I can easily flip where I want to.

Re: Thinking I need
I have a 10x10 basket that I stand a lot of things up in - like frames, Studio Calico mistables/cork pieces, etc.; another for chipboard; and, another for all my bling
I have a 13"x6" chicken wire basket (I got at Target for $2) that I keep those long sticker sheets, AC Remarks books, rub-ons in
I have a large tray basket where I keep diecuts; and a large round wooden covered box for the tiny ones
I have small lucite drawers for wood and flair
I have a small dish (from Walgreens $1) for enamel dots
I have a candy dish for all my brads
I have those candy jars that sit at an angle with the metal tops (different sizes from Walmart) for flowers, buttons, small ribbon spools
I used to keep my washi in a trifle bowl but now it's in a divided drawer - outgrowing that so it may be elsewhere soon

Sometimes I scrapbook by theme, sometimes color, sometimes by collection and sometimes I come across something that I base an entire layout around.  I find keep my stuff separated by type instead of theme or color allows me to pick up something I normally may not have used or considered... Like maybe a mint green looks better than a teal - or maybe a navy works... sometimes I get to surprise myself this way and it keeps my scrapping more interesting to me.

This is how mine are stored, mostly!  And, I don't have too much trouble, except that they are on high shelves in my scrappy space (in laundry room--the wall opposite the washer and dryer, lol).  And, I get really lazy about getting them down to look through.  Good luck finding a different method!  And, let use know what you decide.  I might try something new with mine!

Re: Thinking I need
Another thought:  I picked up one of those Cropper Hopper photo organizers - it's a plastic box about 12x12 with 10 4x6 file boxes inside.  I use mine to store all my project life/title type cards. But I can see how it would be great for diecuts and other elements that would fit those 4x6 boxes... maybe some small plastic bags to hold sequins, buttons, etc. It's organization yet you can just look inside and see everything at a glance.

Re: Thinking I need
My embellishment storage is scattered and needs work.

I have brads in several small divided containers, 3 x 3, and medium divided containers. Ribbons in shoeboxes. A small bowl of washi. Some groupings of themed embellishments. Christmas and Halloween have shoeboxes. All other holidays share a box.

Then I have a small boxes of other themed embellishments: school and music, boy and sports, camping and travel, and asst. other themes.

The 12 x 12 adhesive chipboard messes up my system and bugs me. I should probably take it apart and bag up the pieces. Then store with a theme.

I'm a theme-y scrapbooker, which doesn't seem to be the norm.

your organization I close to the way I do it. I love having my things in small dishes right where I can see it.

Re: Thinking I need
So I am incapable of removing items from their original packaging to store them in any other way. I store all of my embellishments by type - I have a bin of stickers, a bin of 3-D stickers, a bin of Jolee's, a bin of brads, etc. Even though I know that my method is not the most efficient method, thinking about rearranging in another method literally makes me hyperventillate. There are somethings I can change, and some things I can't. Image The most I've done was to go through all my embellishments when working a particular project and pulling out everything related to the theme, color, etc. and temporarily having them in their own bin while I'm working on the project. On the plus side, I have a pretty good visual memory so as long as I look through my supplies every couple of months as a reminder of what I have, when I'm working on something I can visualize that product and find it pretty quickly.

Re: Thinking I need
This is how my non-themed items are stored:

I have a couple of those steralite desktop 3-drawer containers on my table.
  • One drawer has washi & bakers twine
  • One drawer has flair (in a ziploc), loose border strips, decorative branding strips, and those Maggie Holmes fabric frames.
  • One drawer has buttons sorted into ziplocs by color.
  • One drawer has die cuts & chipboard pieces sorted by color.
Then I have two scraponizer containers with divided trays - one is for bling and one is brads, eyelets, anything metal and other little bits.

My sticker sheets (12x12 & border stickers) are kept in the front of the basket with my patterned paper.

Then I have a small photo box that has small sticker sheets, enamel dots, frames, cut apart sheets that have been cut apart, all those little extra flat-ish embellishments that come with collections...there's some tags, bags, frames, brads or buttons on a card, etc.

And last but not least, there's a big latte cup where I throw stray pieces leftover from projects which will sit there until I take time to put them away properly.

ETA...reading this over, it sounds crazy and all over the place, but everything is right at my finger tips.

I have a Scrap Rack that I love :)  It has all of my embellishments in it by catregory: animal, auto, family, sports (this is just a few).  I do have my dog stuff seperately just 'cuz it takes up soooooo much space.  If you would like to see a pic of mine I'll have to take a pic tonight.

Now I'm thinking my problem is that I have way more stash than most people.  lol!  I have four CM binders full of stickers, about 10 shoeboxes full of various embellies, a spice rack full of buttons, jars and jars of flowers, 4 dowel rods full of ribbons, and a ton of miscellaneous boxes of embellishments....It is organized, but not.  I can't find anything!  Grr.....

Since we have moved I still do not have all my scrapbooking stuff unpacked. But, I do have11-  12 x 12 drawers that have  They sit in my walk in closest. They are mainly by topic. . I have 2 CM binders of stickers, binder of die cuts.  clear containers for Prima, a couple for ribbon, more stickers.  I also have a photo container that holds my 12 in Long stickers by category. and 2 shoe boxes of misc.3- d stickers etc.. I am starting to go through it all.   For my small embellishments I found a tackle box case that is has zippers with several boxes inside.. I have  cases in there for... Brads, Buttons, Designer Buttons, Eyelets, and Misc Small embellishments.    My issue is my hands have a harder time getting things out like brads because of the issues I have with my hands.  I would appreciate any ideas for this too..

I forgot to mention those - I keep those with my 12x12 sticker sheets in a 3-ring album.  I just slide them into page protectors like a layout and keep the "album" on my shelf next to my chipboard basket.  That way I can just bring it down and flip through the album to find something that works on that layout - so many of the sticker sheets like MME, Bella, OA, etc. are interchangable between themes and color schemes.

I would absolutely NOT be able to scrap without my tweezers...just ordinary tweezers from my makeup bag.  I now have one pair in my tool caddy and one pair (my fave) that I keep on my desk in the tray with my most usable stuff (ink & applicator for edging, adhesive, stapler, date stamp, etc.).  It has saved my life because I can pick up and place everything from small letters to small embellishments (like wood, stickers, brads, etc.).  I have neuropathy in my hands and can't really feel my fingertips so I can understand your problem.
I also recently got on of the WRMK picker-uppers.  I haven't used it yet, but think its for small little diecuts and stuff like that - will update once I break into it later.
