I don't post much on the message board but have been leaving comments in the gallery because I hate posting layouts no one comments on.  I figure even a "nice layout" is better than no comment at all.

So she has her settings so nobody can pm her?  Sounds fishy to me.  Maybe we should alert Brandon about it.  If it makes you feel any better, she got tired of my gallery after about 3 days. ;)
Actually, if you don't join the message board, you don't have access to PM's I don't think.  I tried it with someone who asked a specific question on one of my posts and she didn't have the PM feature active for her account so I could not message her.  She was asking where I got the papers I used and I ended up commenting after her just to answer her question since I could not PM her and was left only hoping that she could respond.

Mine, either...not that I'm complaining.  It was really fun to come to the board with lots of notifications mixed between layouts and a thread I posted a couple of nights ago that were all long detailed comments.  Those are fun to come in and read!

oh I really do appreciate your comments and love your username too! Image

It's just when you receive 39-50 of the same comment from the same person in a matter of minutes you know the person didn't actually 'see' your layout.

I don't want to be too quick to judge without talking with that cherry who left the comments. I wouldn't want to come to any conclusions that may hurt their feelings. Maybe they don't know what to say. I usually say "awesome layout" or "love it". Maybe they really like your layout and she is scrolling through your layouts to get inspiration.

I was shopping and looking through the gallery for a year before joining the message board. I would look at the awesome layouts and then buy the paper the cherry used. Maybe it is very innocent and not what you think.

exactly what I thought.  not to long ago there was a thread like this and made me think to hard to make sure I was saying the right thing.  so now I don't comment as much afraid of not saying the right thing.

ok just for fun...im going to play devils advocate here...hehe

while we all know its irritating to have the *obviously for cherries* comments on layouts..that are not sincere blah blah blah by non active members..........
how else do you expect them to get more cherries?????????  not everyone understands or wants to participate in a message board but they might feel they can go thru someones gallery and leave some *love* and "get the job done".......(maybe they are just 75 cherries away from their next discount..blah blah)

those of us who play in the games forum are basicly doing the same thing..........just not in quite as public way since those are no longer in the sidebar--but ive seen ppl collect 25-50 cherries during the day playing games............

YES how they are going about it is NOT polite.......but really they are just doing the same thing in a different way....
BTW--im not defending this person(s)  it just popped into my mind while I was washing dishes...ROFL

I can see wanting to play devil's advocate here.  Yes, it is true that some Cherries are accumulating 25 - 50 a day just playing games.  I see that as completely different than someone collecting 25 - 50 cherries a day leaving lame, disingenuous comments on layouts.  The Cherries in the games forum are participating in a game -- sometimes for fun, sometimes for cherries, sometimes for the prize.  In addition, while I haven't been in the games forum for ages, I'm willing to bet there aren't many Cherries that just stay in the games forum.  Maybe there are, I honestly don't know.

I could do the same thing if the discount meant that much to me.  It's not that I couldn't use it, but I'm not going to run around and pretend to be interested in products or layouts just to bump me up to the next $5 discount.   And that's all those posters are doing . . . pretending that they even LOOKED at the layouts.  I don't post my layouts on line anymore, but no way would I want that kind of recognition.
OCD is not an adjective.  It is not a personality quirk. It is not synonymous with being organized.  It is a complex and debilitating mental health illness that affects people of all ages and walks of life, and is defined by the presence of unwanted, intrusive thoughts and repetitive actions. 💙 I am an OCD warrior and I fight for my son. 💙

You know I heart you, right?  ;)
I understand the devil's advocate thing and believe me, I am not dissing anyone just because they leave a short comment.  It is totally the volume of comments that are all the same in a short period of time.  If you are doing that, you aren't really looking at the layout.  So, jokeysmurf (love your screenname, please jump in here with us...we want to get to know you), and lesmitch, and anyone else who feels pressure to leave the "right" comment, please don't!  This post was never aimed at those who leave a genuine comment, no matter how simple.  If you are mass producing comments on large quantities of layouts then I am talking to you!

It's all good with me, too.  I just wanted to reinforce to those who are saying that they are scared to leave comments that none of us feel that way about their genuine comments.  I know there are those who are just trying to get points.  I guess I just feel sort of used when they are doing this by commenting on my layouts which they are not even really seeing, but just randomly choosing.

She got me. I now have 64 comments in the last couple of hours from yours truly. I think she should be about done with me. She went back at least 18 months ago. I'm not even going to open them because they all probably say the same thing. "Adorable layout."    lol.

And she just got me. 35 notifications but I guessed that was what it was ahead of time and simply removed them. Not going to waste my time reading the same thing 35 times. She should be banned from commenting.

Re: Anybody else?
I'm not sure how I missed this thread previously. Image  I do try to post a comment on most layouts/projects/cards in the gallery.  Yes, getting cherries is nice but I do it mainly to make sure everyone gets some kind of praise.  I know when I work my butt off on a lyout and then only get 1 or 2 comments, I get very discouraged.  I am usually weeks behind in leaving comments and I'll open a picture and know exactly what I want to say and the person before me writes the exact same thing I was thinking.  "Ditto" seems kind of lame!

And yes, I know who you are talking about.  When I get a notification with her name, I just delete the notification and don't bother opening my layout to read the comment!  Image

Re: Anybody else?
I got hit again by you know who.  37 this time. She went all the way back to 05/02/10 to my very first layout that I posted to Acot. I thought she was done with me. This was all done since lunch time. Of course they all say the same. She must not have much if a life if this is all she does. I am hoping that she is done with me. But I thought that last time when she got me for 67 at one time.

Re: Anybody else?
If I am taking the time to post on someone's layout, then I actually like it. I don't spend much time in the gallery to begin with but every once in a while, I'll take the time to go look at layouts. As someone else said, it is annoying when someone has a bunch of product linked up to their layout that they didn't even use (not just on this site, but I've seen that done on others as well. I've noticed that it is designers trying to promote a whole line of product who oftentimes do this).

Now, you will see me leaving generic comments at times like beautiful, etc. but please don't think I am trying to just get points because I try to get creative with my comments. Sometimes I just want to say something nice and move on.

I think I *might* know who you are talking about as far as the gallery comments, because I come across her "reviews" in the products section over and over again and she is never a "verified purchaser".  It's really obvious and a bit ridiculous.

That being said, yes, I have left quite a few reviews here and on another site of different tools/products that I may not have purchased here (or there). A lot of times, I might have purchased an item locally, but I'll go online and leave a review on it. But I won't take the time to post a review if I don't actually own the product. And generally if I'm going to leave a review like that, it will be on a tool or punch like the envelope punch board, for example. I bought it here, but I have left reviews on it on other sites as well. I bought my MS scoreboard at the LSS, but I left reviews online. Not to get points, necessarily though.  I do this, because I do enjoy giving my two cents on a product and because when I first got into scrapbooking, I read a lot of reviews before I would purchase things. So I feel like giving an honest review is like helping another scrapper out.

That all being said, I hope this thread doesn't stop people from commenting on layouts in the gallery because they might feel their comment isn't good enough. I do know what you are trying to say though.

Glad to hear it's not just me Image LOL - it is a bit annoying especially when "Just Adorable" is posted on a layout that's about the death of a family member or a layout along those lines - ya know she never even stopped long enough to see what the layout was about!  She's hit me a few times in the past couple months with at least 50 comments each time and is currently, as I type, in the middle of another spree. I didn't realize I even had that many layouts posted here!
