ATG refill/pink phasing out?
Hello! Long time scrapper, still fairly new here.

To the point, I'm shopping for ATG pink adhesive refills and not finding an exact match here. I see the gold edition, though, so....

1) Will the gold, 1/4 inch function in the pink dispenser? I would assume so, but don't see reviews on the product.
2) Silly unfounded conclusion: Since there are NO pink refills, is 3M phasing out the pink box design?

Re: ATG refill/pink phasing out?
I did a search. I saw some pink on ebay, still don't know if it's phasing out or not.
As far as I could tell the only difference between the pink and the gold is that the gold has more holding power, but I'm not sure I was comparing the correct "pink"

No idea.  I got mine (and refills) on clearance at Hancock's last year...that's why I'm not that heartbroken over hating it.  The guns were $7.75 and the refills were $2.50.  If I had spent $40 on the gun, I would have been very upset that I didn't like it.

My M's didn't have any of the pink boxes for weeks, then suddenly got more in a week or two ago.  Maybe it was a shortage?

Yes the gold ones work. I had to buy them since I couldn't find the original refills either. Now I prefer the gold. It seems like they are phasing out because even Michaels isn't selling the originals in my area. Only local scrapbook stores have them now.

What do you like better about the gold??  I'm wondering what the difference is since I need to buy refills and am wondering which to buy.

I like the Kraft paper liner better than the white liner. I feel like it goes on smoother and it doesn't get all gummy on the wheel on the right side.... does that make sense? It could be my imagination but I like the gold.

Re: ATG refill/pink phasing out?
And actuallu the pink ATG came out way after its predecessor, which are the atg 700 and the 741 I believe. The 700 is yellow and is for 1/2 inch. The red one is the one that is 1/4 inch and when they came out with pink it was the one that came out after the red one. The gold are acid and lignin free.ATGs were originally used in the framing departments. Then they appealed to our need for pink and purple.

Wow! That's some fun information to have.

I'm actually considering altering my pink atg to teal, or whichever shade of blue appeals to me at the time. I've never really appreciated pink, but it was the only atg that DH could find.

Re: ATG refill/pink phasing out?
I have a pink gun but it came with tape that is on either white or kraft colored backing, and any of the replacements I've used have been appropriate. i don't think the color of the gun matters, all of the tapes fit them I think.

Ladies this is one of those cases where size DOES Matter. As long as you get the acid free and lignin free, just get the width you need. There are three sizes, quarter, half and three quarter width. That is the difference.

That will also be good to remember. My attention to detail isn't always present when shopping. I will try hard to pay attention.

The first few times that I had to refill mine, I watched a YouTube video of a crafter I admire. It does feel a little unnatural at first, but easy enough to get the hang of.

You'd be shocked at what you can find on youtube.  I didn't feel like watching the video that came with my sewing machine (despite the rave reviews of it's helpfulness) and just searched on YT...couldn't find the exact machine but it was close enough.  I'm betting there are videos on how to load the ATG on YT as well.
