I don't want to be too quick to judge without talking with that cherry who left the comments. I wouldn't want to come to any conclusions that may hurt their feelings. Maybe they don't know what to say. I usually say "awesome layout" or "love it". Maybe they really like your layout and she is scrolling through your layouts to get inspiration.

I was shopping and looking through the gallery for a year before joining the message board. I would look at the awesome layouts and then buy the paper the cherry used. Maybe it is very innocent and not what you think.

I thought the same thing at first and even was thinking that I hoped art teacher wasn't talking about my comments until I went and looked at the comments/layouts myself. The person she is talking about (I think) posted 885 gallery comments and 7700 item reviews all within a few months and almost every one is exactly the same. I know I would be discouraged to see the notification icon and check the comments and realize they were just mass produced.

I know all the comments I leave are heartfelt, although they might not be creative in my wording, and i appreciate the comments I get, it's nice to see that people look at and enjoy my work. One if the reasons I really like this site is that I feel I can share my work with others who really appreciate the time and energy it takes to create something. I think sometimes people who don't craft don't understand how much goes into making cards and layouts.

Re: Anybody else?
Shannon, yes that's the same person that left nearly all identical comments on many of my layouts. I'm guessing it's because they no longer give a point for product reviews if you don't buy the products here. I found out by linking a product to a layout that I had in my stash but hadn't bought here. I usually try to leave a review when I link certain products whether I've bought them here or not.

citygirl22 wrote:I don't mind generic comments in the gallery so much because, I admit, I'm guilty of sometimes writing a quick, generic comment on a layout that catches my eye. I'm not an expert in color and design so, really, there's only so much I can say about a layout. If I write "beautiful photo, love the papers!" I'm not doing it to stock up on points, I'm being dead honest. I really do think the photo is beautiful and I really do love the papers … and will probably add them to my basket once I'm done commenting Image

The product reviews *do* bother me though. I've noticed the Bazzill comments as well, and I've also noticed that sometimes people link products to their layouts that aren't there. For example, if they use one little sticker from Amy Tangerine they'll link up a whole bunch of Amy Tangerine stuff even if it's not anywhere to be seen on their project. As someone who reads the product reviews and checks the photos that supposedly use the products before I make a purchase this drives me nuts! I'm glad ACOT has a "verified purchase" next to reviews … most of the time, those are the only ones I'll read.

I love linking products & try to do it even if it's something small.  I figure the more ACOT products I can promote, the better! :)  I really don't think about leaving reviews very often though, I guess I should do that sometimes.

As for Gallery comments, Mildred & anyone else of that opinion, *Please* don't let that fear of being 'judged' keep you from leaving love!  I would so much rather have a generic comment than none at all!  I love when my notification button is red & I feel more confident in my layouts when they have more comments, though I know I really shouldn't. ;)

Gals, I understand what you are saying, but I don't think you understand what I am saying.  This person has 869 gallery comments and 0 forum posts.  She is most definitely only doing it for the points...I have no problems with short, sweet comments when they are heartfelt and from people who I have conversed with here on the board.  I know we don't all have time to write out long sentences, nor do I think you shouldn't post if you can't post a detailed comment.  I merely got irritated by a stranger just leaving random, useless comments on so many layouts at one time.  I do realize that some people may enjoy this, but I do not.  Mildred and Brandi and others who take time to leave love because they know it is important to the board...I am totally not talking about any of you! She is in no way complaining about the "quality" of the layout comments. She is complaining about being used simply so someone can get points.  It's disingenuous.  I agree with her.

You got it...that is totally the reason I posted as I did.  I certainly wasn't trying to make anyone who is leaving genuine nice comments feel bad.  I love it when people notice a layout and post on it, no matter what the comment.  I don't like being used to just gain points.  I don't have time to click on 50 notifications and read the same comment over and over from someone who doesn't even show the slightest bit of interest in my work.  ;)

o.k. this is what we're talking about! ugh! I have 49 comments this morning all from the same person. Clicked on a few and they are all "Simply Lovely" or "Adorable". Annoying!  So strange there's no way to pm this person to thank them for all the 'Lovely' comments. Image

Re: Anybody else?
Yep, I also had an identical comment on all of my gallery posts within a couple minutes. At first I was excited, being a newbie, that someone liked my work enough to look at my whole gallery. Then it was a let down when I realized it was all copy/paste and not that she really did "love this layout!" Lol. I try to get in the gallery and leave some love, especially if I'm taking the time to submit myself. I enjoy reading all the feedback on mine, and I've truly found inspiration in the ACOT gallery.  I try to be specific on what I love, I usually mention what drew my eye initially to click and get that larger view. There are times when my comments are on the short and sweet side, but if I say something is so cute, it's because it is, all the way around! Image

So she has her settings so nobody can pm her?  Sounds fishy to me.  Maybe we should alert Brandon about it.  If it makes you feel any better, she got tired of my gallery after about 3 days. ;)

She's hit mine off and on but usually not this many at one time. I figure she'll be through with mine eventually.

Too bad it doesn't invalue it like it would if it were the same comment on a product review, that would be sweet!

Re: Anybody else?
Like some of the others, at first I was afraid some poor person was getting picked on for not being verbose enough in her comments, but clearly this is someone abusing the system. Not cool!

I love scrolling through the gallery, leaving comments as I go, but as you can tell by my board posts, my biggest problem is being too wordy! I don't know when to shut up, ;) I'm especially bad when it comes to the pet layouts, but I can't help it. I love everybody's pets and want to know everything about them. :) That's part of what I love about the gallery--that you get to know more about your fellow cherries through their work. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to leave such wonderful and helpful comments on my layouts and stuff. I really love hearing from you. The support means a lot.

I've been really lucky not to get hit yet, but I don't have that many things in there yet. I'm glad that they do give points for commenting because on other sites that don't have incentives like that, you don't get the feedback that you do here.

I didn't even notice that they weren't giving points for reviews of products that weren't purchased here, though I have reviewed some. I like the reviews for the most part, and I'm sorry that they aren't giving a point for them anymore, but I have seen a lot of abuse in that area, so I don't blame them either. I mean, if you haven't used the product, you really shouldn't review it. Possibly my biggest pet peeve about the reviews are the bad reviews given for items because they just don't like how they look in the picture or aren't to the reviewers taste. That's not very helpful. But it's worth it for all the great, extremely helpful reviews that do get left. They have definitely helped me decide whether or not to give something a try that I wasn't sure about. Thanks to everyone who leaves those comments! They're great!
