Re: Real or fake?
We had a really complicated-to-assemble fake tree when I was a kid. Now we have a big silver tinsel tree since we often travel around the holidays and don't want to leave a real one alone. A friend tossed theirs into a bonfire we were attending years ago, and the way it went up in a giant ball of fire definitely made an impression on us. This year we're home, though, so we decided to get a real one for a change of pace. It's very pretty and smells nice, though it's kind of funny that, more than pine, the smell of tinsel garland really brings back being a kid at xmas for me--you know, the shiny puffy snakey kind. :)

P.S. I had no idea so many people had pine allergies! Pine pollen in spring, yes, but pine needles in winter...wow! I've never met anyone who was allergic to xmas trees before. Crazy!

I get hives from the pine needles poking me, so putting decorations on the tree and taking them off causes me to itch like crazy. And then, I end up having a hard time breathing. It is definately getting worse the older I get. I miss the pine smell though, so my mom bought me a wax from Scentsy that smells like pine.

Grew up with a real tree. Had to go to a fake tree when a 7' or larger tree was $129.

Re: Real or fake?
I grew up with the same fake one we had my whole life. Then i broke it my senior year (the stand) so it got stuck in a bucket of sand for the base that year and tossed after that. Mom never got another, she's a bit of a humbug. My husband and I did real the first few years of our marriage, but the needles are an absolute mess to deal with EVERY day and the branches are too floppy and don't hold ornaments how I like. So we bought a pre-lit fake tree 5 or 6 years ago. We now have 2 small bands of lights that are out, so we might have to buy a new one next year..... or this year on after-Christmas sale :)

real. I love the smell, the feel of it, decorating it with lights, etc and afterward, I even love all the needles in the carpet!

One thing I really love about fake is that you can keep it up as long as you want :)

Re: Real or fake?
I grew up with live trees, but started decorating artificial trees because we lived away from the family and traveled home at Christmas. We did try the live tree with root ball to plant after Christmas one year and another year a small live tree on the front porch. Now, I really love my pre-lit tree and leaving it up longer stretches the holidays out a bit. DH put it up this year before Thanksgiving, but we didn't decorate it until after Thanksgiving.

Re: Real or fake?
Had real most of the years I was growing up (until I was probably 15 or so). But then I got the job off decorating the Christmas tree so fake and I would put it up on Thanksgiving Day and take it down on New Year's. The real ones don't last that long. Honestly, I can't touch certain things now without my hands breaking out so no more real one that is for sure. I know have a new tall thinner base tree (7 foot) and only pulled the ornaments I bought the last 2 years. So it has 7 ornaments on it LOL.
