Scrapbook/craft Room?
So it looks like I will be getting a scrapbook/craft room sometime this year. We are going to be remodeling and redoing the house and I should get one section for that. Yes, it will be a scrapbook/craft room as I do knit and have lots of yarn (not nearly as much as scrapbook stuff, tho - lol).

However, I have looks at a few different (hundred's) pictures of different scraprooms, but I really need to know where to find a good sized desk?

Any idea ladies? If so, where did you get it, how much did it cost (if you don't mind telling me), etc.?

I would appreciate any and all feedback.

Many Thanks!!!

Re: Scrapbook/craft Room?
My scraproom is in my basement. I don't have a desk but do have a butcher block farm table and also a formica 8 foot counter that used to be in my kitchen. My husband made wooden legs for it and it is at a normal counter height so I can work either standing up of use a bar stool for sitting. At the counter, I can slide those 3 drawer plastic containers on wheels underneath.

Re: Scrapbook/craft Room?
I got mine from Costplus World Market. They had a coupon for furniture, when I went to purchase the desk, they only had the display, so they gave me additional off. It works great, and we have built other shelves into the corner so it's awesome. I think there's a pic somewhere in my gallery. I'll put it here if I can find the time.

Good for you, that is awesome. I don't have a desk, I use a table. It's going to be fun getting it all together. Keep us posted in your progress and I know the cherries can help you. Good luck :-D

It is wonderful that you get your own space! Congrats! I have a tri-fold table that is old, old, old. I think it is called a "gate-leg" table. Also, I have my dining room table, my kitchen table and the rest of the house!!! LOL

Re: Scrapbook/craft Room?
My scrapbook room doubles as my office, so I have both a computer desk and a craft desk in there. I picked this one up from Michael's:

I like it - it could be a bit more sturdy, but it's a nice sized work area without consuming too much space in the room.

Re: Scrapbook/craft Room?
What size do you want? Do you want a desk or nice large table? I have a computer desk and it's great for holding some of my supplies but not enough room for spreading out all my parts of a LO! I need elbow room, a firm table to press on for punching and the right height for comfort. I think I would have to go to stores locally to "test" them. Unfortunately, my room is not big enough for a large table! I actually have besides my desk (I can do small stuff there like stamping, play with inks, etc on the desk) a futon and a fairly sturdy coffee table. It works for me right now. I have dgd who need to sleep over sometimes so they can sleep there. I'm short so leaning over the coffee table works heightwise for me. But I know some like to have a higher table to use. I do not have room for anyone over to scrap with me unless we carry our stuff to the dining room table. Think about how you scrap, what kind of table you need, size, sturdiness, desk style?, drawers, etc. Putting together your room is exciting and challenging! Would love to see the end results when you are done. Good luck!

Congrats on getting some new space! Sorry, no help on the desk, I only have tables and a large peninsula of counter top that I use.

Re: Scrapbook/craft Room?
Becca, I have NO clue as to what happened to my reply yesterday...so I will try again.

I SO wanted to make a "work station" along one wall in my basement for my daughter and me...for each of us to have a "station." I just cannot afford to do that in my situation and budget. Sooo, I was rethinking what I can do. I came up with another idea from something I had seen on Pinterest. I have an old, solid wood door that the ex left in our garage, so I plan on taking off the handle and hardware....priming it...and painting it (and maybe even age it as well). I will buy a 4x4 piece of lumber...have it cut to size...and create legs. If I want to "decorate" more to it...I will add some extra wood pieces to do so. I have priced out acrylic sheets for the top, but for that size door they are pretty, pretty pricey. I am afraid of glass for the weight and breaking possibility. I am looking into making a resin top to fill in the panels...and seal the top. Yes, that will be a bit of an expense...but, I think the effect will be so worth it. I have found an amazingly priced storage unit that will be used to store what I end up keeping from ALL of my craft supplies. I plan on buying some shelving from my local hardware store and put those up along the top to store the "photo/cd" storage boxes that I got on sale at Michaels.

Maybe you can get an idea from what I wrote above? Maybe you can build your own table/work area...to the sizes that YOU need? Good luck and let us know what you decide on doing!

Re: Scrapbook/craft Room?
I have a Workbox by The Original Scrapbox company. It's expensive, but it holds EVERYTHING! Ok - not everything - I also sew, knit and make jewelery and dabble with some polymer clay. I'm going to look this weekend at some cabinets from Lowe's/Home Depot to finish off my room. Congratulations on getting new space for yourself! Did you look at the scraprooms in the gallery yet?

Re: Scrapbook/craft Room?
I have both a desk and a table in my craft area. The desk I got at a yard sale (I traded for some scrapbook supplies!) and the table I use is a folding 6' table I got from Sam's a couple of years ago. I like to keep my desk free for doing cuttlebug/cricut and laptop items and use the table to spread out to get creative.

In my space, I have a desk that my computer is on and then a metal work table like this (only my base and legs are a sunny yellow):

It is big enough for me to work and fit well in my space. And I picked it up at a flea market for $20 :)

Re: Scrapbook/craft Room?
Thanks for the great ideas everyone. I would like either a fairly large size desk or table. I already have a small desk and I just always seem to run out of room. lol Now with the machines I have I really need someplace for them to sit. lol I've looked at several different things, but they are all just so amazing - it's a lot of information!!! I'll keep you updated as things progress and it will DEFINITELY be a progress.

Re: Scrapbook/craft Room?
I use the ELFA tables from Container Store. There are simple legs on one side and pull out drawers/baskets on the other. To protect the tops I use a Fiskars cutting mat that quilters usually use. If kit gets too hunky or warped (one did from the heat of my computer), then I just get a new one.

I have my mom's old kitchen table too. And MS stuff is amazing...and i would love to have all of it too.

Good luck putting it all together. I am constantly trying to tweak my arrangement...some things look great but just don't function when you sit down to use them...but that is a lot of trial and error.

LOL, I was just telling Bibi how I keep finding things to change in mine to better suit me. Yep, until you actually use it, you don't know how well it all functions. Ill have to go look at the MS tables, never saw them before.

Deb, where would we go to see MS tables in Pensacola? I don't think Michael's or the other craft stores have them. I would love to see them.

Re: Scrapbook/craft Room?
Okay....here's what I picked up this past weekend....FINALLY took the plunge...as I want to get things going / set up for my daughter!

Do you have a Big Lots by you, by any chance?

$129

and

$129
Image

They also have this...that I think is "big" enough to fit paper:
$99.99
Image
...and then I just saw this:
$99
Image

Another place to look is consignment shops and stores like Goodwill, Savers,.... Hobby Lobby sometimes has things in their furniture section that could "work" for you!

Good luck...and let us know what you end up doing for your space!!!

Re: Scrapbook/craft Room?
I just have an L-shaped desk that I bought from Staples a few years ago. I don't remember exactly what I paid, but it wasn't over $200, I'm sure. Occasionally Staples will have their office furniture half off on their website with free delivery, which is why I ended up with the one I have. I love the L shape because it gives me two separate work areas. I usually use the shorter side for cutting (it's long enough for paper trimmers, circle cutters, a 12 x 12 cutter, etc.) and the longer front side for creating layouts.
