Chat #1
So, hopefully this won't become depressing. My grandmother passed away on Thursday. She lived 90 long years and we are celebrating her reunion with Grandpa in Heaven. My chat question is, do you make "in memoriam" layouts and how do you do it? I have been wanting to do one of my dear departed mother-in-law and she has been gone for 8 years, yet I can't get it together. It seems like such pressure, because I want it to be perfect. At first, I couldn't do it because I was so sad. Now, I'm just blocked.

Re: Chat #1
I haven't done one but this is such a good idea. I should do my parents - favorite pics of them and then things that remind me of them and what they liked to do.

Make it all about the things that trigger memories and good times with the individual...I am working on one of my Grandpa who was a farmer so I have a picture of his favorite tractor that triggers we always use to ride it with him....their farm and the gardens we had with them.....etc......But he is a picture in the center of the layout...

It's very hard for me too, Laura. I think it's easier (at least for me) to let some times pass... I've only been able to do one for my dad, and I feel that I should do another...

I think about it, but have never completed one. I like the idea of putting a picture in the center of the layout and journaling about their life around the page....maybe using different decades/years as the leadin for each section.

I did one about my mom about a month after we lost her. But I never feel like it says enough. So I'll probably do a few more if I feel like I want to say more.

I did one for my dad. I had a large photo surrounded by tree branches and birds and then placed his favorite saying underneath, along with the obit from the newspaper. But then I did many other pages on his life too.

Re: Chat #1
I don't know that I could do it as a goodbye layout. I much prefer to do them as just part of the order of events. Especially since I scrap chronologically. If I had to make it special, and perfect and goodbye, then I just couldn't do it.

I've lsot both my parents, and haven't done one for either. I just don't know what I want to say! I did do one for my brother though...he passed away when I was just barely pregnant with #5....and I vowed if it was a boy, his middle name would be Mark, after my brother. Well, I have Adrian Mark, and a layout I love!

Re: Chat #1
well, when my grandmother died 8 years ago, we just made a memory board (like I think many pp do) of lots of pics of her with all the family members throughout her life... that was placed at the funeral home and after we took it to my aunt's and we celebrated my grandmother's wonderful life and all the fun we haad with her, remeembering all the moments in time mentioned in those pictures. She always loved Pecan Sandy cookies, as did I - and made sure they were in the house when I made my 2-3x a year visits to see her, so we stopped and got a whole bunch, and got beer and wine (grandma could party with her grandkids!) and we had cookies and drinks and toasted this wondeful lady!

just a few months ago, one of my uncles passed and my mom actually did a few 12x12 Lo's rather than just pics, and they were family pics of my uncle with my aunt, his kids and grandkids at special places, on holidays... again, it was something for everyone to enjoy and think about in a positive way... I think that is about the ony thing we can do when we lose a loved one, find a way to celebrate them and the life they lived~

I haven't yet.

I keep thinking I need to make a small album of my late husband so that the grandbabies will know about him. I just can't pull it together. I know it SHOULD be done - but I can't do it.........

So sorry to hear about your grandmother :-(

I didn't really do an In Memoriam page about my grandparents, but what I did was make a layout with lots of journaling describing my relationship with them and telling some of my favorite memories of us together.

I've only done a few. My great grandmother who passed away when I was 8 in 1988; my grandmother on Mom's side who passed away in 1969 at the young age of 35; and my grandmother on my dad's side who passed away in 2007. For my journaling, I write "letters" to them, telling how much I miss them, or how much I would have liked to meet them.

I actually did one about my father who passed away in 2003 in response to a ACOT challenge. It was a Faithbooking Challenge about Honor. There is hidden journaling in the upper right. The verses are printed on vellum.

Love this. I think it is a great thing to memorialize those we love and the things we love about them in a scrapbook page or two. I ran across a photo of my dad last night. This inspires me to scrapbook about him. He has been gone for 10 years now. It will be good therapy to scrapbook about him - touch his life and face through my photos. I am so sorry, Laura, to hear about your grandmother. Blessings and prayers to you during this difficult time.
