Good morning health fanatics! It's been awhile since I started a check-in/reminder thread. How's it going? I know we had a few racers since the last time - how did you do?
I have a new app for my phone that will post to Facebook. If you see my Nike+ post "like" it and it'll send me cheers while I am out running! Isn't that fun? I like the new app because I can see it better and it's more accurate since it's GPS but I had trouble where I would bump the screen and then my music would go off. So, I need to figure that out.
I've also had a little bit of foot trouble and tried out some additional padding under the balls of my feet. That seemed to help because they are not hurting right now. They have started hurting after my runs and I can't go barefoot anymore. My shoes have basically no padding so this provides a little cushion that I think I need. I have also been doing toe exercises and took 3 days off! It felt so nice to run this morning - great weather and I've started a new early morning schedule now that the kids are out of school.
So, give us the update! I want to see what you've been doing!
I am envious, but glad that you are doing well. I used to be so fit, but now I am just fat. And getting fatter. I can't wait to get my new knees and get on with my life and get some weight off. Can you tell I am feeling depressed and sorry for myself..lol..
Didn't mean to hijack!! I am happy for you that you enjoy your running so much and are doing well. Take care of those feet!!!!!!!

can you do some of that chair fitness they do with older people? I saw one of the Biggest Loser Contestants doing that as well. He lost 100 pounds faster than anyone has ever on the show and most of it was from a sitting position because of an injury. Exercise does really help your mental well being. I hope you can find something to make you feel better even before the new knees. And, I hope everything goes well with the new knees too so you can get back to being yourself.

Do you have access to an indoor pool? When I injured my knee and couldn't run/jog/exercise, I went to the pool daily and even participated in the water aerobics three times a week. Less exertion but you get a really good workout! I was amazed! Good luck!
Trish ~ It's all fun and games until somebody loses an EYELET!
Thanks ladies. I guess i could figure something out that I could do. I am just real stubborn when it comes to stuff like that. Because I can't do what I love to do- go to the gym and lifts weights/do cardio, I don't want to do anything. Now I know that you are going to think "why can't she lift weights?" Yes I can do stuff sitting down but you still need to brace yourself with your legs, and I am an ex-bodybuilder, so I lift heavy weights. I am not going to the gym if I can't lift heavy weights. See, stubborn Water aerobics and swimming is definitely a no-no. My knees are too bad for that.
Anyway, I will figure something out, plus I need to get a handle on my diet. I am an emotional eater- enough said.
So, let's hear some good fitness stories from you ladies!!!!!

I lost 12 pounds so far. I have been riding my bike on the bike trail in our area. When the weather is bad or if I can't get out I use my Gazelle Edge Glider. I have had it for a couple of years now and I still love it. Got it for $25 from a friend and it's in my bedroom. I don't eat sugar anymore or chocolate and I don't miss it. I'm hoping to loose 50 pounds but taking it 1 pound at a time
I haven't really been doing anything intentionally, but the switch to full time ER from a split position between the Observation Unit and ER has done good things! I'm walking a lot more, and eating alot less out of boredom or to try and stay awake. But I started going thru my closet yesterday to hang up some clothes I'd bought this spring. I'm fitting in clothes I haven't worn in 3 years (I don't care if they're somewhat out of style, I still like them and will wear them! lol) and have 2 laundry baskets full of stuff that is too big. I still have wwaaayyyyy too many clothes though! lol
I have been wanting to start walking and this weekend is the day! I have the same trouble with my feet. My trouble is that I can't wear sandals because they are too flat and hurt my feet. I have to wear shoes with cushions or I can barely walk. Well, at least I know how to solve this problem. I hope your feet get better.

I've been going to Zumba again, and I love it! I also have bad knees. I had to quit running on the road, and the treadmill is a little boring to me. I switched to Zumba and sometimes I have to modify because of my knees. But my heart rate monitor put my calorie burn at 836 calories, not bad for an hours worth of dancing and shaking my booty!! 12 pounds down!

I walked around the stores a lot tonight...does that count? lol Did a lot of summer clothes shopping for the animals...er.....I mean.....ankle biters....er......i mean......kids!
looks like we have the beginnings of a "dozen" club! Congrats to paperqueen and cropinmama! that's awesome!
My dh and I walk around our "circle" which is almost a mile long. Our street goes down and then "circles" a block. No outlet down there so not much traffic. It is nice, but boring day after day. He is doing well after open-heart surgery. I am just too fat and it is hard to walk around my fat thighs. But I have lost 22 lbs since Christmas. Just started South Beach diet so the downward weight should continue. I want to lose about another 50 lbs, but one lbs at a time! We will keep it up together. Thanks for sharing your fitness plans with me.

That's great!!! yes, take it one pound at a time, that's the way to do it. I actually lost 90 pounds at one point- that was "back in the day"..lol..when I went on to do bodybuilding. I never set a goal as to how much I wanted to lose at the time, I just sort of said "ok, I lost 10 pounds, let's lose 10 more" and went like that. It's much easier and more motivating to take it in little chunks like that. After all that I went through losing weight and being a bodybuilder, you would think that I could lose some weight now..lol..I think after those years of being so strict, once I gave it up I went all to hell with it and now it's so hard for me to get back in the groove. Plus my hubby loves me like I am doesn't help my motivation!!
Last year, I bought a treadmill for my birthday, and then a month later hurt my knee and waiting for surgery (scope and releasing a tendon)...so needless to say "running" is out of the question. So I started walking with a friend 3 times a week. We just completed week 6...each week we add another section to our walk...I must say we are fast, considering what we started with to now!! Last week, I think I pushed it and got shin splints, so I took it a bit easier! I can't wait to get back on treadmill to start up the running, cos I love running....and my goal is to be able to "run" outside next summer without looking like I'm having a heartattack! hahaha!
