Re: Do You Drink Milk?
I love drinking milk! Growing up, we weren't allowed to just drink a glass of milk, because money was always tight and we needed to save the milk for cereal or cooking. Dh grew up drinking milk with every meal. We are very lucky to live in a major dairy area. We get our milk, ice cream and even eggs from a dairy that is literally about 5 miles away from us.

I drink milk every day - at least 2 glasses. Especially when I have Oreos or chocolate cake, like the one I just made. :-D
I wonder, sometimes, if we ever give God a headache.

Re: Do You Drink Milk?
I used to, but I also used to eat a bunch of cookies with that glass of milk, and since I've done the "healthy lifestyle change" thing I don't do that anymore - my boyfriend does though, because he just LIKES milk; I don't. I have to have something with it, so I usually have a little extra on cereal because I know I SHOULD be drinking more of it. It has to be skim milk though, any full-fat dairy ANYTHING makes me really sick... (I do also use fat free half&half in coffee, though :P)

I drink 2% milk with most meals. It was how I was raised and it has helped me so far. Plus, they say drinking milk can actually help you keep your waistline down!

Yes I drink milk. Growing up we had milk with all our meals and I still do. But I am surprised that most of my sons friends don't drink milk.

All four of us drink milk for dinner. My dh will drink mill ALL of the time, me not so much. It all depends on my mood. The girls are pretty good about drinking milk or water and not much else other than some apple juice and orange juice.

I drink it about twice a week with dinner. I also drink a little 4 oz glass almost every day after work (school) with a snack. Since I don't like anything less than 2%, I try not to drink too much since I also have it on my cereal every morning.

Re: Do You Drink Milk?
I suddenly became allergic to milk when I was about 11 years old and developed a sensitivity to dairy products as I got older (higher fat contents gave me hives and skin rashes) - but as a young child I always loved chocolate milk! so, I tried the lowfat chocolate soy milk and it is absolutely delicious!!! I don't drink a glass every day, but probaby about 3 times a week :-D

I grew up drinking whole raw milk would love to still do it, but if I could get it, it would really put on the pounds. You know how many people have to have their cup of coffee in the morning? I need to have a glass of 1%.

Ayla wrote:I love milk, but try to be careful becuase it's really easy for me to pour like a quart and drink the whole thing! lol I don't like flavored milk though, and drink only skim or 1/2 or 1%.....even 2% is too thick for me. I'm the weird one....when i was growing up, we didn't drink much other than milk. So we'd have popcorn at night for a snack, and eat it while drinking milk. To this day, I much prefer to drink milk with popcorn than pop if I am at home!

My oldest loves milk with his popcorn!

Milk and popcorn??? I can't imagine. I put m& Ms in my popcorn when it is still warm... mmmm.

As for milk, I don't usually drink it by itself, but with a meal... I have heard that it's good for you and adults (especially women) Dont drink enough of it...

Susanne_79 wrote:Not everyday, but yes I do like a cold glass of milk, and as far as I know it is good for you as a woman, it will help against osteoporoses :)

Susanne is exactly correct, milk will keep woman's bone densities up. My mother has been drinking at least 24 oz a day since I was born. Her bone density is in the top one percent of women tested regardless of age.

Yes, I drink milk as much as I drink Dr. Pepper and I too would drink raw (unpasteurized) milk if I had access to it, but I don't live in a dairy area of my state and a dairy has to be certified to sell raw milk.

As most of you know I keep up with all things agriculture. The newest thing, this past week, to come down the pike for damaging agriculture and force your food prices up is for the EPA to go after dairies. They tried two years ago with a tax on cow toots for methane emissions for beef and dairy cattle and that failed. Now the EPA has decided to go after dairy farmers when milk is spilled because it has oil in it. It has fat in it....that oily butter fat that will rises to the top. Totally biodegradable. More inspectors needed meaning bigger bureaucracy, permit costs, and reporting to EPA will all force the price of milk to go up. So ladies do not spill the milk because the EPA is treating it like a Hazardous Material WHICH MILK IS NOT!

Milk is very good for you as long as you are not lactose intolerant. Major source of protein, easily absorbed calcium and Vitamin D as well as easily digested. Most calcium supplements aren't easily absorbed by our bodies. And we aren't the only ones who drink milk beyond infancy. Dogs and cats will drink milk if a bowl is put down for them.

I GOT MILK!!! I LOVE THE DAIRY FARMERS WHO PROVIDE ME MILK!!!

Not if it's not chocolate milk. I don't really like milk, and the only time I use it is for cereal for breakfast. Even then, it's not very much. DH and DS like it...especially DS. Me? Not so much.

I've read some info on cows milk. Cows milk is really just for cows! Too much milk protein for the human body to break down. I love almond milk and soy milk. I lean towards the almond milk. due to the controversy over soy milk. But....there are times I crave cows milk and will chug down a glass!

Re: Do You Drink Milk?
Like Ann, I'm hypoglycemic and I drink a glass every night before bed to keep my blood sugar from getting too low overnight (I put a little choc. in it as no, I don't really care for plain milk any more, and I also eat a naturally sweetened whole grain cereal).

My doctor doesn't think it's good but it's the best bedtime snack I've found (can't lie down after much food as I get heartburn, milk is better). But yeah, he says adults shouldn't drink milk. I've tried soy milk & just can't stand it; haven't tried almond but I really don't think the cow's milk bothers me (though cheese definitely does, but that's another issue).

Yes, dogs and cats will drink it - they'll also eat chocolate and antifreeze, both of which can be fatal! So eating it doesn't mean it's good for them; cats in fact should definitely not be given milk (ours loves it but will throw up even after just a little bit).

Re: Do You Drink Milk?
thanks for making me feel less like a freak. I do like milk, plain or with chocolate malted milk stirred in (dont like other kinds of chocolate mix)

However I have bad news for you 2% drinkers. Whole milk in most states is 3 or 3.5% butterfat. Barely more than your 2%. And for those who like the milk w/o the butter fat removed, dont need a dairy - just go to the local health food store.(BTW that has about 30-35% butterfat when it comes from the cow)

I raised my 3 very skinny kids on store bought whole milk (3.5%) and the old fashioned kind you can now only buy at health food stores and local dairy outlets. My kids grew up with rich creamy "real" milk, making their own butter in mason jars, and whipped cream pound cake. My younger's sons wife says after learning this she now knows why her DH can drink half and half w/o gagging. lol I made them potatoe soup with real cream and their dad made ice cream with them as well. All still skinny but most of our friends said I would kill my sons by clogging their arteries. LOL

Both in their 40's. both still skinny. Neither has high cholestoral or heart disease. go figure. Havent tried the soy or almond milks yet. DD is a health food freak with her 2 year old but said only milk she likes is whole milk for herself and her son.

This thread has been very educational for me. thanks again.

DH and I love milk!! Since it's just the two of us at home - we only have skim, 0.5% or 1%.... But between the two of us, we go through about 3 or 4 gallons a week!
