hmmm to be honest I don't know but a GC would be awesome I don't think it's boring but that could be because I finally got one for my bday and was sooooooo excited!! It's so new to me lol! I usually don't buy a lot for myself but a GC lets me get what I want without the guilty feeling.. of course I still have $$ on my bday GC from July so I doubt dh will get me another.. but I would like one here.

Well, since the price of flat-screen TV's is supposed to drop, I asked for one for Christmas... I don't need anything big or fancy, so maybe it'll be doable! It's reached the point where there's nothing I super super "want" and my parents just get me practical things... I buy a lot of stuff as I need/want/see it on sale, so Christmas isn't a big thing anymore...

But I did ask my mom last night if I could order what's in my basket for Christmas and I even offered to ship the box there and let her wrap it up (since I won't have any time to do anything til then anyway... damn school) but this morning she just said I could have it now... I love my mommy.

I don't think GCs are boring to get either. But they can be boring to give. When that's all you have to give it just seems a little lackluster. But personally I would LOVE to get one, like you said - buy stuff without feeling guilty!

I believe the plan is for us to get Wii sports resort for ALL of us - which would end up costing more than what we have spent on Xmas for all 4 of us in many years. I am not expecting anything for myself, but I hinted much to the kids that it would be great if Kyle could find a Christmas song that both he and Abby could perform a duet together. She took up piano and practices a lot, and he has played clarinet for years. I asked to be surprised with a song Xmas day.

A new TV for the living room (flat screen). DH and I have talked about making that our gift to each other, but I don't think it'll be doable this year. A GC for scrappy stuff (which I really don't need), a gc for a massage or pedicure would be cool. With money being tight this year . . . seems to be a common theme . . . we probably won't do much for each other. I think we are going to buy DD a new laptop because she really needs that for school. She travels for sports and stuff so needs to be able to keep up with homework. So, that'll likely be where the bulk of the Christmas money goes this year.


Actually, now that I think of it . . .my Christmas gift is getting to go the Close To My Heart Convention next July in Anaheim. My daughter is going with me and she's going to check out colleges while we are there. Then we are meeting hubby in Phoenix for a week.

I for one am not a big fan of giving gift cards.. why not just give money and I was taught that money (except for weddings) is kinda a thought-less gift - with that said my family goes happily OVERBOARD and starts shopping for gifts in the summer. We really don't do birthdays, but LOVE Christmas. And the theory is that if you know someone well enough to get them a gift, you should know what they like, its really all about paying attention to them.
I will give gift cards to teenagers!!!! I have 2 and holy cow teen boys are such an exception to the rule!!!!!!!!!!
My teenagers have an option - they can get a set amount in cash...or gifts in kind .... They know us well enough to know that we will go over the spending limit if they want the gifts - so they always make out! They have yet to choose the Cash offer.

My husband and I really don't get each other anything big for Christmas, we celebrate at Tax time! - I would LOVE an Ipad - New Camera, and a Silhouette!

I think we're going to get a new flat HDTV on Black Friday. Our big tv we got from my sister when she moved gave out and we are using an old one from when we first ogt married (21 yrs ago). I'd love a sports lens for my Rebel but they are super spensive!

I agree---my MIL ALWAYS wants a list of items. There is no real fun in opening a present that you already know what it is!!!

*So* not even thinking about it yet, lol! DH, his mom and my mom all have birthdays the 1st week in November & my mom's is her 70th! So right now I'm focused on that, afterward might start thinking about Christmas. We both keep Amazon wish lists & will often just get stuff from there, & my in-laws often shop from that as well, which is fine! As for gift cards, I love giving and getting them! It's soooo much more personal than cash, because you do have to know the person to get them a card from somewhere they'll love using it; we get restaurant ones for my folks & I love getting Kohl's, Target, or craft store cards. I certainly don't mind getting cash either, lol!
