deaf. I would rather not be able to hear something I can't identify. That would scare me much more. Plus you can still drive when you're deaf.

Since I am half blind and half deaf right now (due to age), I would choose deaf. I cannot imagine not seeing.

I would rather be deaf. To be in total darkness and never know color for me would be far worse. There are so many ways the deaf can communicate and I think being independent would be so much easier.

Deaf for sure--I could scrapbook still that way. But I sure would miss DS's laugh and music. And Howard Stern. Really. I would miss hearing Howard a lot!!

I've thought about this nearly all of my life.

I had a blind cousin but I dated a deaf guy in high school. There is no answer. I just thank God every single day that I can listen to the birds singing in the morning and watch the glorious sun as it sets and I pray that it will always be this way!

I've thought about this a lot too, as my grandmother is blind from macular degeneration. I am an extremely visual person (I learn/remember things visually, and obviously enjoy creating visually) and also a musician (pianist) and love musical tv, concerts, musicals, etc. But, assuming it happened now or in the future as opposed to being from birth, I'd choose being deaf - I would still be able to remember music in my mind (better than visuals, I think) and even continue to play piano, I just wouldn't be able to hear it. Could still talk, etc. And yes, I think vision is more essential for daily function (and most job-related skills) than hearing.

Don't even have to think about that one. I would rather be deaf. My daddy went blind from Macular Degeneration. I watched it take his eyesight over just a few short years. It is one of the most sad and devistating things to watch happen and knowing there was absolutely nothing that could be done for him. There is no known cure and after awhile the treatment he was getting no longer helped. He could no longer drive his car or read a newspaper or book. He couldn't watch the birds and squirrels in the yard, which he also enjoyed. He couldn't even see the faces of his grandchildren anymore or photos of my mother. When he lost his sight, he lost his will to live and just gave up.

I'm naturally almost blind without my glasses. It sucks. But living without hearing my kids laugh is heart breaking. I don't think its something I could chose. If I was to deal with one that would be in God's hands.

I suppose deaf. Either one is a horrible thought, but there are so many advancements with implants to aid in hearing that I think I'd probably be able to hear again before seeing again if I lost my sight.

Oh goodness... I guess deaf...

I'm already considered legally blind, but without the darkness. At one time I even began to learn braille. I think I would take that over deafness any day.

That's a really tough one but I think I'd have to agree with most everyone else and say deaf.
