Sexpresso Stands : For or Against?
This has turned into a HUGE controversy here in the area and since I happen to live down the street from this particular stand, I'm all for debating the pros and cons of these kinds of drive-thru coffee places... Chime in! I wanna hear what you got to say!

Today's OUR VIEW from our local newspaper. As you can tell from the previous article, this has really gotten folks verbal!

Re: Sexpresso Stands : For or Against?
Never heard of them. Do they sell sex or coffee or both? Is this like a Hooters where employees are just barely dressed or is it more of a selling sexual favors type thing?

They're drive thru coffee stands with young women serving coffee in scantily clad thong/pasties or the skimpiest bikinis they can squeeze into. No sex (at least there's NOT supposed to be any!)

Re: Sexpresso Stands : For or Against?
I guess as long as they don't sell sex it wouldn't bother me anymore than Hooters. It isn't a place I would go to, unless they made darn good smoothies (I don't like coffee).

I work at a college so am pretty immune to skimpy attire, you'd be surprised at what some of the girls wear.

I don't think I would want that much naked skin around my drink or food; but as long as the place was really super clean I'd be okay.

I don't have little kids though so that might make a difference.

Now I've seen everything!

Can't you just go to a strip club for that? Does it really need to be a coffee place??

Send them to the topless bars that get so much flack in Nebraska!!

I am very liberal and would say - sure why not? the second article mentions tinting the window that faces the street. so I guess I could see that as a compromise. I think that the business owners should be allowed to make money from adults who wish to patronize these facitilies, but if people don't want their children to see it then maybe regulating it so that the women are not clearly visible from the street would be a compromise.

It sounds similar to a Hooters or something. I really don't see a problem with it...I think the windows should be tinted and I'm sure there is an age restriction, right? Probably some sort of sign so someone who isn't into that whole thing wouldn't be completely caught off guard. LOL
To each his own, right? :winkb:

Good response and a majority of readers here are of the same mind. The problem becomes a little more dicey when there's a school bus stop (elementary) right ACROSS the street from this stand, the window facing the street is tinted but once the window is open, everything hangs out (literally), it's on a busy highway (303) and several near-misses have occurred as a result of gawkers/ogglers and one gal was recently spotted OUTSIDE the stand, in said attire, smoking a cigarette...

Ok, that changes things...I think the tinted windows are a good start and maybe cover-ups for the ladies that need a smoke break!

If my kids can see if that's a problem. I don't care what adults do even though I am a conservative. I do care however, that they have to cover cosmo at the grocery store so kids can't look so I think they should have to do a better job of concrealing their pasties.

I am definitely AGAINST these kinds of establishments. (And I am very glad to live in possibly THE MOST conservative town in all of Washington, where there is NO WAY anything like this would ever be allowed!)

I agree to keep that stuff in the stripper bars, kinda gross to think someone nearly naked is serving food/drinks to you, people carry lots of well hidden germs.

Re: Sexpresso Stands : For or Against?
I'm completely appalled. There appears to be no end in sight to the subjugation of women by making them nothing more than sex toys.

I don't care about people's bodies - nakedness doesn't bother me in the least. What concerns me is the trivialization of women and the message it continually sends to men and boys and then, in turn, to young girls and, obviously from the responses here in support of this ridiculousness, to women when they're older.

Men don't do this - they think better of themselves than this. Why do women?

Should the government step in and limit this type of business? Probably, but only because the people are, once again, too stupid to police themselves.

well along with the requiring a tinted window, they should have to stay inside or cover up when they go out. even more than the impressions on the children, this seems like a safety hazard to the traffic

Men don't sell access to their bodies not because they think better of themselves than that, there just isnt a market for it. Women just arent as visually stimulated as men; it's a biological fact. (which I will gladly delve deeper into with anyone who wishes, because genetics and the science of attraction is a personal interest of mine, but that isnt the discussion here)

As for women being subjugated, trivialized or whatever - Eleanor Roosevelt famously said, "no one can make you feel inferior without your consent"

It seems to me like good business sense on the part of these women. If I were an attractive young waitress or barista, and I could make more money by doing my job wearing my bikini, well then by all means, let those 'stupid' men pay me more to do the same job, simply because I am wearing a different outfit. If it doesnt make me feel bad about myself, (and in fact it probably makes most of those women fell GOOD about themselves) then it is just me making more money for the same job.

For that matter, why is it ok for me to sell access to my brain, but not ok to sell access to my body? I mean, isnt that what we do when we go to work? I am paid a premium because I have knowledge in my brain that not everyone has, so why is the fact that I exploit my God-given intelligence for personal financial gain so much more acceptable than if I were to exploit my God-given good looks for the same end? (assuming that I have good looks to exploit that is :winkb:)

Re: Sexpresso Stands : For or Against?
I tend to be very liberal and open minded so i do not have a problem with it....but they should not be able to be seen from the street. Maybe by extending some walls at the drivew in sections or such they could come to a compromise....sex sells wether you like it or not. But, I agree that you should not have to be exposed to it while driving down the street. Unfortunately, in my area...we have the t-back hot dog stands...and they are all over during the summer. I just tell my girls how I feel about it...and as a parent that is what we have to do sometimes, we can not shield them from everything, and if we do...imagine how they would feel about us when they grow up..and they will grow up and see it themselves, and sre often more apt to try things if they are "new" to them. Re: Sexpresso Stands : For or Against?
I agree that I don't want my kids to see it. Especially since I have all girls and I see it as somewhat demeaning. If it's legal, then so be it. I personally wouldn't patron that establishment and my husband would get drop kicked if he did. But like has been said, it doesn't bother me anymore than Hooters, as long as it's not in my face.

The bus stop thing does bother me. I'd be very upset as a parent who's child got a full monty every morning. LOL

Also, a small part of me has an issue with what places like this do for women in general. This is in the forefront of my mind because I'm currently writing a term paper on domestic violence and sexual assault. Establishments like this dehumanize women and can send mixed messages about female sexuality. I think our country today has very unhealthy sexual attitudes and can lead to what has been conceptualized as "the downfall of human morality."
