This year I've been going to the tanning salon even though I said I'd never do that again. I just couldn't stand my bright white legs anymore!
Nope and nope, but need to. I feel starkly white next to my dh. He's "brown as a ginger cake" as my Mom would say. Lucky him - he tans easily!

I used to lay out in the sun and go to the tanner often. Since I've gotten older and had skin cancer twice, I tend to cover up when I'm in the sun.

I don't tan at all.

I tan outside in the summer and use a spray on tan the rest of the year.
No and no...I burn too easily for tanning beds and I've just never cared about looking tan. I don't mind my whiteness. Besides, skin cancer runs in my family and I don't want to tempt fate even if my sisters do.

No cancer beds for me either! But doctors do say the lotions are safe. I have been using Neutrogena brand. Yes, it does smell funky - like all the others. I only use it on my legs though. I am sure my facial skin would break out with that stuff since I can only handle fragrance free facial lotions for sensitive skin.
I am another very pale person. Never have tried a tanning place nor the spray on or whatever it is either. I avoid hot sunlight.
And isnt it funny for hundreds and hundreds of years women avoided getting sun on their skin so it would stay soft and smooth and pretty. Now the tanned healthy look is the thing.
How times change? Maybe ask your doctor his/her opinion about using a tanning salon booth or the spray on kind.

yes, at the beginning of the season to get my color started so I don't burn the first time I hit the beach, or get kicked off, laughed at, etc

I don't use either one because I don't like the feel. I go out of my way to stay out of direct sunlight. My grandmother was pale, my mother was a sun worhipper and I am now like my grandmother. My mother's skin is in bad shape.
