Re: Fiskar's Warning!
Unfortunately in CA you'll find that label almost everywhere. The high rise building I work in has the sign that materials used to build the building have been know to cause cancer. My mom passed away from cancer & she was never in this country. I believe if I have to get cancer someday, I'll get it no matter what I eat or where I live or what I use.

Re: Fiskar's Warning!
Just because that's the brand you see with that warning, doesn't mean it's the only one who has the potential. Their just responsible enough to tell you.
Rather than just throwing their products out, I suggest you write to them and tell them your concerns and that you would like to know if they are planning on making future products that may be a safer alternative. This is more likely to get a better reaction than dropping products into the dump, which will just pollute the earth.

I did contact them about it and they said not to return it. And I am sure we all have thrown things away that pollute the earth. It is ok to question that is why God gave us a brain.
Enjoy for we will never have this day again.

Thanks for the warning. It was nice of you to think of us. I tend to ignore the warnings because of the constant changes in what's good for you and what isn't. It's frustrating.

You are very welcome. I understand, it is a rapidly changing world and we all get frustrated.

I never said you didn't have a brain and not to question. I was just suggesting you tell them specifically that they lost a costumer. Customer complaints are what get through to companies that you want to see a change. You didn't mention in your post that you had contacted them. I thought my reply to you was quite right. I never made an excuse for the company and didn't criticize your decesion not to purchase from them anymore. I was merely encouraging you to actually let them know so it could make a difference one day!

Speaking of warning and frusterated, I totally despise coming on the board, when I want to escape my everday life that has me stressed to see threads like this.

I understand Koi that you thought you were warning people but to be honest, I don't think it was appropriate. I think that at times you feel the need to get into these discussions to have something to do on the board and I being the one that has to come here and monitor it, do not find it fair to me or the rest of the board.

If there had not been other instances that in the past couple of months, I have had to monitor, or if your replies did not come back with the snarkiness that makes me have to come back to moniter, I probably would have let this go, but as we all know this is not the case.

Everyone has different views on things and some are able to voice their opinions once and be done with it, others cannot and that is putting me in a position that I am going to start deleting threads and possibly even banning users. I DO NOT want to do that, but it is getting out of hand. I am ALL for freedom of speech but when it crosses the line and we all know it has or will, then I am going to start putting a stop to it.

Re: Fiskar's Warning!
I am not trying to be mean when i ask this so don't jump all up in my face, but do you have a tv, microwave or a cell phone? Live anywhere near highwire lines? Have you ever had any diet soda? Ever been exposed to second hand smoke or smoked yourself? When you go outside, do you cover yourself from head to toe or are you always sure to stay out of the sun and only be in the shade? Have you ever eaten a charred well done piece of meat? The list of things that can/have cause cancer can go on and on and on. If you look hard enough, every single thing in your everyday life can cause cancer. So if you are going to go on a crusade like this, you should commit yourself too it completely. For instance, you can't becommit to be a card carrying vegetarian and still eat a steak occassionally. :-)

Beleive me, I do not take cancer lightly. My father passed away from cancer at the age of 48. I know how it affects the person and their family. But I just feel that if you are going to call out one company online like this, you need to commit to it and research all the scrapbook companies and see which other ones have that same warning. Just to be fair.

:-)

I doubt that you know Nene well enough to make that claim. I'm sure everyone on this board has experienced their fair share of ups and downs, traumas, and losses. I don't believe anyone should say that their suffering is worse than anyone else's, especially if they do not know that person.

Re: Fiskar's Warning!
Okay, I read the warning.

I had already dumped my Fiskars, though, for several reasons.

  1. They are overpriced pieces of plastic
  2. They don't stand by their product when they fall apart
  3. They dumped two of my favorite paper lines after making promises they obviously weren't going to keep in order to get these lines in the first place so I think they're shoddy and unprofessional
I think there are a lot of things we can do to live healthier and happier lives. I take all cancer warnings seriously - except the idiotic labels that Sen Mark Pryor wants in children's clothing that allegedly contain lead. Totally idiotic. Lead paint - smart. Lead in clothes - Dumb idea.

Picking on fellow scrappers is getting old. If you don't like a thread then don't read it. If you don't agree with it, don't respond. Everything doesn't have to be a battle. Life is so short and there so many worse things in the world than picking on someone you don't even know. Besides, was it really Koiwey that started the animosity on this thread? Just like the last time, I don't think so.

It could have been handled differently, yes, but she's not the one that got all up in someone's face first.

BTW, I had to have my stomach biopsied this past Friday and the only one of you who even cared or asked about me was Koiwey. I've been here almost two years and the ONLY one of you who even cared is the one you all think is so bad. I think this thread says more about all of you then it does about Koiwey.

Just want to add that that particular warning is on the packaging that came with the household screwdriver set and numerous other items containing plastic. i just as soon enjoy my tools and wash my hands regularly, like always.

M'Lee, when did you post about your biopsy? I just searched your posts, and I didn't see anything about it. I'm sorry to hear about that. When do you get the results?
