Re: Art or blasphemous?
It's art.  People of certain religions might find it blasphemous, but certainly not everyone would.  Every piece of art, every book, every movie will always have something about it that offends someone.  It's all about freedom of expression.  I'm of the opinion that if you don't like it, don't look at it.

Re: Art or blasphemous?
Well said, Jan!  I don't believe in censorship of art/movies/music, etc.  I do believe that things that are likely to offend or are inappropriate for children should come with a warning labeling it as such.  Much the way movies and tv are labeled.  I think the museum could post a sign at the door to the gallery about the subject matter possibly being offensive and let people choose whether or not to see it.  Also, the Vatican coming out against it makes it more likely to be seen by many more people....we all want to inspect the controversy for ourselves!  LOL!

Re: Art or blasphemous?
*LOL*  You sure are right, Laura - I had to go see for myself. I'm with you both about it being up to each person to decide for herself what's art and what's not - and all the ratings of TV and Movies in the world are ignored by me.  I usually ask my sons what video to rent - they see all the movies!
I wonder, sometimes, if we ever give God a headache.

While I don't like it - we can't start banning things just because someone disagrees with it.

Re: Art or blasphemous?
It's art, not a religious symbol. There were many, many crucifixions in the days of the Romans. I personally do not care for it (not a fan of frogs as art objects) but it's not blasphemous.
