What kind of PC do you have?
I have to get a pc. My dd is moving out on monday and I will be totally computerless :( MY multimedia Dell that I LOVED has dies again and needs a new PCU now :x dont think it would be worth buying a pcu since so many things have went wrong with it. I am afraid it is a lemon :x it is only 2.5 years old and of course I only got a 2 year warrenty. I know I won't be able to afford anything fancy, I really can't afford much at all, but Sams club has a few HP and I do have credit there :? any suggestions? might as well go a little farther in debt I gues. :?

I have had a wonderful experience with all my HP products. I've owned 5 of their computers, 2 printers and 1 scanner. There was nothing wrong with them, they were all upgrades.

Check out Acer. I've had those in the past and they worked well. Not sure if you have a Best Buy near you but they sell them. Check around to see who else does.

Good luck on your search!

I bought a Compaq Presario at Walmart Two  years ago.  Made it through a 6mo tour in the sandy country of Iraq without problem and it is still kickin...LOVE IT.  DH got a DELL Laptop before he left on this last run.  I don't think I will ever go back to a desktop.  I love the mobility.

HP bought Compaq several years ago. I don't care that they own it-there has to be some difference. EVERY Compaq I have ever come into contact with has been a piece of #*%$#*!!! I had one at work, that CRASHED right out of the box!

I love my laptop. My laptop is a Mac though and I have to say after having this, I will never go back to a Windows based PC. My desktop PC is for my kids, and they'd better hope it doesn't break soon, since I can't afford to replace it. Mac costs lots more but is sooo worth it.

I've been thinking about a Mac laptop.  Are those made only by Apple?  Is it hard to understand?  I'm not sure I understand the whole being able to move around the house with it.  Do you have to plug it in every time?  What about taking it different places?  Can you only use it in hot spots?

Re: What kind of PC do you have?
I have an Acer laptop right now (6 mos old), but had my HP for about 5 years.  You can get some really good deals on either brand!  In my opinion, I would rather pay for a cheap computer at the time so I can upgrade in a few years without stressing, rather than spending a lot of money on something that will need to be upgraded anyway (based on software & memory).

 Robin,

When our house started using laptops we got the wireless router so we can virtually go anywhere in our house and sometimes out.  I also had DH do a wire for those times I am doing something ONLINE that I just can't take the chance my wireless fails.  So I can do either or.

Oh girl, don't get me started about how much i LURVES my Mac!! They are made by Apple and you can only get them from an authorized seller or at Apple online. They ship quick too!

I was lost with it until I got myself a regular mouse. Then I had no problems. Mac's have one mouse button and it kept messing me up. They cost more, but are so worth it.

I have wireless set up in the house so I only plug in the charger when I need to. I can go anywhere that has a hot spot - but I rarely leave the house, so this is not an issue for me. They come wi-fi ready so you don't have to buy any special equipment to use it at a hotspot.

Re: What kind of PC do you have?
We got a catalog from Dell not too long ago, and I seem to remember there being some fairly inexpensive laptops in there.  We have Dell at wor, and so far nothing has gone wrong.  We had Dell at my last job, and those have worked out very well.  My friend still works there, and she's not had any problems with them.  I THINK they're probably at least 5 years old now.

I have an HP Entertainment laptop. LOVE IT! Came with all this fun stuff that I have NO idea how to use! LOL Anyways, never had any problems with it.  I had Acer before, it was okay.  No real big complaints, but it was nothing to rave about.  However, they are cheap!

Re: What kind of PC do you have?
Mine is a put together kit from tigerdirect.com.  That way I got all the features I wanted without paying for those I didn't want.  Only thing I would recommend doing differently is do NOT get a Pentium IV processor.  They just overheat too much.  I wouldn't recommend getting a LAN Party motherboard either.  The first one I had died around a year.  It was still under warrenty.  The one they replaced it with only lasted 3 months.  I bought another brand rather than try to get that one replaced under warrenty!!
