Favorite 80s Films
This is a take-off of Shannon's thread yesterday about Mommie Dearest. Other people brought up movies like Money Pit, and I was wondering...what are your favorite 80s movies?

Mine include:
  • Goonies
  • Mannequin
  • Major League
  • Fire Walker (with Chuck Norris, this is filarious!)
  • Anything by John Hughes
  • Monster Squad

I was(am) an adventure movie geek!  Goonies is in my top 5 favorite movies ever.  Others:  The Princess Bride, Labryinth, The Neverending Story, and The Dark Crystal.  Also all of the Brat Pack movies like Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, and Sixteen Candles!  Oh... and I could watch Stand By Me and cry *every* time.

I love all those too, Jess! Actually, my 4yo is now a big Labyrinth fan, it's so funny!

Explorers was really good, too, until the cheesy alien parts at the end.

Everything Brat Pack, especially The Breakfast Club...except St. Elmo's Fire...never got into that one!

I also love Pretty Woman...nothing like Julia Robert's laugh!

Geez, you must be my long-lost twin! LOL! When I was a kid I had actually taped Flight of the Navigator with my cassette player (we didn't have a VCR yet) and listened to it a million times. I was so excited when the DVD came out!

Ummm....Can I chose all of the above? I'm an 80s movie fanatic and love them all. Although, I guess Sixteen Candles would have to be my favorite. I wanted to BE MOlly Ringwald. lol

Re: Favorite 80s Films
Does anyone have 16 Candles on DVD? I've had a weird experience with this movie.

Back in the day, my grandparents had taped it off HBO for me (not realizing what it was, I'm sure!). That tape got eaten or something somewhere along the way, so I bought it on VHS. But that version has different music from the HBO version, and it really bugs me to watch it that way! I'm just wondering what music is on the DVD. Hmmm...maybe I should get it from Netflix just to see.

Adventures in Babysitting!!!  Three Men and A baby, Beetlejuice, Beaches,Can't Buy Me Love.  As you can see, I love eighties movies!!!

Re: Favorite 80s Films
My parents took us to see Gremlins. My little brother hid under his seat for most of it, poor guy!

Anyone remember Innerspace, with Dennis Quaid and Martin Short? Hilarious! My dad took me to see it and he absolutely hated it. He didn't like Labyrinth either.

When I liked a movie, I went right out and got the soundtrack and the novelization. For Goonies I also had the Making Of magazine. And I still have my Madmartigan pin from Willow! Ah, the days when Val Kilmer was so hot!!

Speaking of Val Kilmer - what about Top Gun?  Too bad Tom Cruise has turned into such a nut!

You can't leave out the cheesy 80's horror movies either - Nightmare on Elm Street, Fridady the 13th.  And you can't mention the 80's without Ferris Bueller!

 Great picks, HapEScrapr!

It's funny, because I'd love to share more of these movies with my son, but I think some of them just would be too scary. Indiana Jones - melting faces and ripped out hearts come to mind. Of course, the kid loves watching Ghost Busters (bad language & scary ghosts) and Goonies (bad language).

Loved Val Kilmer in Top Gun. Anyone remember Real Genius? My fave Kilmer flick!!

Hey, did you see they made a Lost Boys sequel? I know, I know - why?? But Corey Feldman reprises his role as one of the Frog brothers. I don't think I'll see it. In fact, this may have been a straight to DVD thing. Love the original though.
