Mine used to look horrible too - take lizziej's suggestion of inking the stamp by dabbing it rather than pressing the stamp into the ink pad - fixed a lot of my issues (now if I could just get help with the procrastination problem I have...)

I have all the same problems - my stamping is awful!  I really need to just stick with the acrylic ones!

Have you tried the stamp press?  It has four lil foam feet so that you can't rock around and mess up.  I have NEVER messed up using it.  There are lines so you can make it straight and it's clear so you can see through it.  It is probably one of the best tools that I have ever got.  I use it all the time.  LOVE it!

Honestly? I PREFER the smudged, inexperienced stamp look myself! Looks more authentic and REAL!

I'm so not a stamper here!  I try every once in a while.  Tried an acrylic album at a crop in November.  It was maddening - I am back to not stamping again!

I used to be a Close to My Heart consultant and have done LOTS of stamping. Now that I am using some other products I have one suggestion when using acrylic stamps. CTMH Acrylics always came with a very small "spongy" sheet to use with them, it took the place of the foam between the wood and stamp on mounted stamps. When I use an acrylic stamp without something with a little give under it(under the paper), it does't look good.  I did find a stamping pad at a local craft store that I always use with acrylic or unmouted stamps. This spongy mat REALLY helps if you are stamping a solid image so the ink looks even. Hope this might help some of you.Jodi

Wow!  I guess I really don't know what I am doing, then!  I have on set of CTMH stamps and thought that spongy stuff was just for storage.  How do you use it for actual stamping?  I have only ever stamped by afixing the acrylic unmounted stamps to clear blocks, I don't know how I would use that spongy thing as a buffer? And I'm loving the answer Mom2snox gave!!!

My LSS said the secret is in the ink pad many times. Many stamps are made for use with matching product ink pads. Michelle will call the company and ask them for their secret.Keep trying. Avoid the rocking motion.

I stamped this layout (ONE) and was wishing I had messed it up a little more cuz it looked like it was the printed part of the paper!

That's such a cute lo...and so perfect. I know what you mean about the slightly "messy" look. I love that look...but it never fails, whenever I want a crisp look the stamp slides around and makes a mess and whenever I want a messy look it stamps crisp. Go figure.
