To the wonderful digi gals....
I know this has been asked before, but I'm still not sure I'm using them correctly.
I found this thread, but the styles in some of my latest kits are jpg's just like the other elements. Should I be doing anything other than overlaying and merging?

So then you're using glitter sheets then and not an actual "style" right?

Yes, I've noticed that some of the designers are sending glitter sheets. Easy peasy on those, I just cover whatever object with the sheet, and merge the layers. And, voila, the object is glittered. But I have some other kits where there is a style included. Don't know how to use those.
I'm on PSE 7 if that matters.

Hmm..I haven't used PSE since 2.0 so I don't think I'm much help! I know in photoshop, once you apply a style you have to save it and close it. For example, if I'm making brads with a style I can't drag it onto my layout then add a drop shadow because it replaces the first style.
As far as the glitter overlays can you adjust the setting for different effects, instead of just merging it to a layer?

I don't know about the settings - guess I'll need to ask one of my CT designers about it. But that gives me some ideas to think about. Thanks for responding!

Laurie, I can help you with this. Give me a couple of hours and I'm all yours, LOL.

Laurie, the first step is to install the glitter style into your PSE/PSCS/PS program. How and where you install them will depend on your operating system and on your version of PSE. This is one of the more comprehensive tutorials. http://digitalscrapdesigns.com/pse-tuto ... ments.html Be sure you go through this step by step!
IF you change the meta data, your styles will show up in the "effects" area of PSE immediately. IF you don't change the meta data, your styles will take 3-4 times of opening PSE to show up. Make sure you click on the "fx" button in the "effects" area to see your styles.
Once you have your styles visible, you select the element or paper you want to "glitterfy", assuming it's a glitter style, the most common. Get that element or paper open in your work area. Then, click on your style and at the bottom of the "effects" area, click "apply". Your paper/flower/swirl/whatever will be glittery!
I have never seen this with glitter styles, but with some other styles, you need to duplicate the item you are working with and apply the style to the top layer. If you don't, your element might suddenly become transparent!
Also, be aware that styles eat RAM. Load enough of them and soon you'll be wondering why your computer is suddenly so slow!

Cool! Again you are such an awesome teacher! Clear, concise, and very informative. That link is awesome as well. I was thinking that asking a question like this on the ACOT mb was way better than trying to google it. And it was!

Marci, don't know if this will work with PSE, but if I just double click on the style itself, it will bring me right to Photoshop, with the style appearing in the styles palette. I'm on a Mac so don't know if it works like that on a Windows machine. And don't know if it works like that with PSE. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Barb, I've never seen anything to indicate it could EVER be that simple on a PC, LOL. One of the big problems is that there are basically 3 operating systems out there for PC's, each structured a little differently from the last. Lucky me, I think I bought one of the last Vista machines sold in America, ugh! Within a month Windows 7 came out. I don't remember what was before Vista, but it is different from its successors. Subsequent versions of PSE have been built to accomodate the quirks of these different operating systems. It's a PITA on installation, but to a designer they (styles) are SO worth it!!!! Scrappers can have a lot of fun with them too.
